Obstacle Eighteen: Electro-shock Therapy

Last year this obstacle zapped me only once. It wasn't fun but it wasn't too bad.

This year was entirely different.

The electric wires hung down over a muddy field of lumps bumps and pure, sticky, slippery goo. There was a crowd of people hesitating at this point. No one seemed to want to charge through this last obstacle because we all know how much fun it is to get electrocuted.

So of course I charged right in.

I made it through the first hill when the mud made me slip and I got zapped in the back. The mud was so sticky and thick that it made a SHLUUURP noise as I tried to pull myself free. Right next to me my fiancé felt in the mud as well and started to crawl as well.

I shoulder rolled over the hill and kept crawling. My fiancé a short distance behind me. It was going well. Until I suddenly blacked out for a second. How do I know? Because one moment I was crawling for the way out with my fiancé a little behind and to the side, the next I picked my face off the mud and my fiancé was ahead of me, trying to help pull me out.

I'd gotten an electric shock to the eye. Well, not RIGHT into my eyeball, but to the occipital lobe. The ridge around the eyeball, where the eye brow ends on the outside of the eye. The shock went in the soft tissue there and zapped me a second out.

Thing is, even though there is a moment I cannot remember (the point of the zapping) I kept going. I was crawling, got zapped, went down, regained consciousness and was crawling as soon as thought returned. I got out without my fiancé having to drag me out, and he never even once realized that I had blacked out. Apparently I have one hell of a poker face.

Once all three of us had crossed the finish line and collected our headbands, shirts and various rewards. There was a power wash station to rinse off the worst of the mud. We hit up the shops and bought a sweater, the fiancé got a shot glass and sticker for his car, I got a bag and my brother got a flag. Then we left.

After course celebrations were held at Pizza Hut. Pan pizza is delicious. So is beer and chocolate cake. It was sooo delicious. And now I need to go aloe my sun burn.
