There is far more walking in between the obstacles than I indicate in these memoires. The course at this point in time was sunny so I was staring to get sunburnt. Which is pretty much inevitable when you combine my skin colouration (translucent) and any kind of exposure to UV rays, and this is even with sun screen and mud covering me. The ground itself was also no where NEAR even or cleared properly. It was rough, lumpy, with long scraggly branches and grass tripping up the feet. We were walking/marching and taking care not to turn our ankles. There were MANY people who had run past us earlier that we were now passing because they had rolled ankles in the uneven ground work and others were having leg muscle cramps (hydration folks!). {Pro tip- TUMS are a great thing to take mid marathon/half marathon/long distance work, they help prevent or subdue cramping}
This next obstacle was a new one for me. You literally carried a partner a distance, changed at the halfway mark and they carried you the rest. Now there was 3 of us in a group, 2 of us standing at 5'6 and 5'7 respectively, with 180-190 lbs each. We could haul each other like freaking backpacks. But my fiancé is a big guy. We got lucky, there was another VERY big guy who needed an equally massive compadre to haul him. So my fiancé got carried by a half naked man mountain and got to carry him. I'll be taking THAT mental image to a special corner of my brain for later.... for 'creative' purposes.
