SCENE II. #10 Downing Street.
Enter LUCIUS MALFOY, DUCHESS PANSY PARKINSON, and THEODORE NOTT
LUCIUS MALFOY
But Potter is bound by the Prince's decree as well as I, your royal duchess,
He's their Minister of Magic, though he is a muggleborn,
Their sentence is worst, I think, these Dementors they speak of
But for us, we must keep the peace.
PANSY
Of honourable forgiveness from the Prince;
And pity 'tis muggles and magicians lived at odds so long.
But now, Minister Malfoy, what say you to my suit?
I've known Draco since 4th form. I love him.
LUCIUS MALFOY
But saying o'er what I have said before:
Draco is yet a stranger in the world of politics;
He is being difficult about this war,
He came here nought an hour ago, laving at the mouth,
We'll be having words tonight, no doubt, disrespecting me!
Nay... he is young still, not more than seventeen,
With this war... let two more summers pass,
Ere I may think you ripe to be his bride.
PANSY
Younger than he are happy husbands made.
LUCIUS MALFOY
And too soon marr'd are those who wind up in divorce.
Then scandal will swallow all my hopes of his future, but,
He, I hope, will follow in my stead and rid us of these blasphemers:
But woo him, fair Pansy, get his wild heart,
My consent for your courtship is but a simple part;
And if he agrees, though little I care for his choice,
My consent lies with you and your pleasing voice.
This night I will hold a grand ball to raise money for our cause,
Whereto I have invited many supports of,
Such as I love your presence; and you, nearly a part of the family,
Will be most welcome, will make my party that more spectacular.
But I still most send out invite reminders, I wish not this to be a dull affair
Where is my assistant? I'll send him out to work it.
The ball will be a masquerade as well. Do come,
Perhaps it'll be an engagement if you convince my son:
For I will require him to come and enjoy the comforts of his position,
I'll have my assistant Nott, send out the message to my supporters:
Come to my house; to hear all, all see, and drink at thy leisure!
As long as they be not wizards, I will welcome all who come!
To Theodore Nott, giving a paper
Go, sirrah, send out the message about
Through fair London; find these persons out
Whose names are written there, and to them say,
Come to my manor and stay on at their pleasure
Exeunt LUCIUS MALFOY and PANSY
THEODORE NOTT
Find them out whose names are written here! How?
He did not say, and he gets testy if I don't do it right;
but I am sent to notify those persons whose names are here
Written on this paper, and can't be sure of what to do
Maybe I should find someone else to ask their opinion?
THEODORE NOTT exits out of the office down to the street area. Enter RON and HARRY arguing about his love life.
RON
Tut, man, one fire might burn out, but another's burning,
One pain is lessen'd by another's love;
And turn your frown into laughter!
We undertake one desperate chance to reduce your languish:
Take thou some new affection to thy eye,
And the painful poison of the old will finally leave you.
HARRY
Your antidotes will help with that.
RON
For what, I pray thee? Do thou have another plan?
HARRY
To break your shin.
RON
Why, Harry, art thou mad?
HARRY
Not mad, but bound more than a madman is;
Shut up in prison, kept without my food,
Whipp'd and tormented and—oh! good morrow, sir.
My apologies. Do you need assistance?
THEODORE NOTT
Good afternoon! I pray, sir, can you help me?
HARRY
Ay, this will be a welcome distraction from my misery.
THEODORE NOTT
I don't know if I can do that: but, I am unsure of my path
I must send out invitations and I can't decide how to do it
Phone, email, owl or should I go to their business or home?
HARRY
Ay, if I know the people, I can guess on how to tell them.
THEODORE NOTT
Thank you! Ye say your honest opinion, sir!
HARRY
Let me see it.
Reads
MP Macnair and his wife and sons;
Count Rowle and his wife and children; the lady
widow of Zabini; MP Yaxley and his lovely
nieces; Comptroller Hermione Granger and her guests;
Captain of the Police Mrs. Lestrange and her husband;
Countess Tracey Davis; Officers Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle
Signior Flint and his cousins Miles, Terence and Derek,
MP Avery and... etcetera. A fair assembly, sir.
But I feel that a simple phone message would suffice
Whither should they come?
THEODORE NOTT
Up to the manor! For a masquerade!
HARRY
Whither?
THEODORE NOTT
To supper; at the house!
HARRY
Sir? Whose house?
THEODORE NOTT
My boss's.
HARRY
Indeed, I should have ask'd you that before. Whose house?
THEODORE NOTT
Now I'll tell you without asking: my boss is the great
Prime Minister Lucius Malfoy; and if you be not a magician
Or a friend of the Potters, I pray, come and enjoy the celebration!
It may turn out to be an engagement party for his son!
THEODORE NOTT exits
RON
At this same manor of Lucius Malfoy's,
Sups the fair number of men, whom thou so lovest,
With all the admired beauties of London:
Go thither; and, with unattainted eye,
Compare their faces and find one that you likes,
And I will make thee think thy has a chance at love.
HARRY
When a beauty becomes affixed in mine eye
I cry with happy relief, but I'll believe it not;
For those who often dream, never see it come true.
One fair and strong of mind! It's the all-seeing sun!
RON
Tut, you will find one fair, I guarantee it!
HARRY
Ne'er will find such a match, especially with a new war beginning.
Did thee hear that it was at the Malfoy manor?
RON
Aye. Tis matters not. We will go,
If only to disrupt the festivities of that muggle
You should have heard that police captain today... they hate us
But if we can humiliate the Prime Minister's son, we must go,
He's probably a git! I hear that it is the Duchess is after him
He'll be inline for the throne! Malfoys are greedy bastards!
HARRY
We should not poke a sleeping dragon.
RON
Aye. That I will show you at this shining feast,
Maybe we should abduct him and ransom him back to his dad?
HARRY
You are joking? Right? We cann't seek trouble. You heard the law!
RON
You shall see, Chosen One. It only matters if we get caught.
I'll meet you at Hermione's house later with the guys
HARRY
[Aside] Great... now I'll have to go just to keep Ron out of trouble.
Exeunt
