My Tough Mudder Memoire

Juli and I were in good spirits as we soldiered on to the next obstacle and quickly came upon obstacle #10 Walk the Plank: Test your fear of heights and cold all in one with our 15+ feet high jump into freezing water. Now Juli wanted to do this obstacle but there was a small hurdle: we had to climb up a near sheer wooden wall to get to the top to jump, and she was a big girl. So I helped shove her up the wall so she could get to the top, then scrambled up after her. Unsurprisingly there were quite a few people hesitating at the top of the wall, staring down at the pool below and realizing just how high we were. Juli started to get cold feet, but there was only one way down and the signs all said that the staff reserved the right to shove us off if we didn’t jump of our own free will. So I took her hand, counted to three and we jumped together, letting go just before hitting the water so we didn’t inadvertently drown each other. I never touched the bottom of the pool of water, which let me know just how deep it was, and I quickly swam out of the way so others could jump in after me. Ironically enough, I almost took a dive into the mud climbing out of my dive into the water. My foot slipped and I did a fancy lunge dance to catch my balance and recovered. This is of course when someone took a picture, and Mike got to see the whole thing. From my climb up, to my hesitation free plunge down, and my almost fall at the end. I gave him a big, wet, muddy kiss, munched on some TUMS and continued.
