I participated in Tough Mudder Toronto August 18th 2012. I was in the 8:15 am run. This is a brief review of what I experienced.

Obstacle # 4 Underwater Tunnels:  Bob underneath rows of floating barrels as you battle the frigid water temperatures. This obstacle was looking like a well timed water obstacle, the day was hot, the sun was overhead and gorgeous and even with sunscreen, I was feeling a little baked. We walked into the water, feeling the mud offer no support underfoot, and were cooled as the muddy water rose from foot, to ankle, over knee and ended at a little under my bust line. By then we had reached the line of barrels we needed to swim under  and it was not a scary obstacle for me. I’ve swum in lakes and an ocean before, so bobbing under a barrel 6 times was easy, cooling and rather fun.  This was one of the moments I was thoroughly grateful that my boyfriend had taped my shoes to my feet and that I had worn socks though. By the time we had walked back out of the water, everyone but me and Juli had to stop and empty the crap out of their shoes. Many others who had chosen to run in toe shoes had done so without socks, a fact they would later pay for. My shoes drained quickly, weren’t weighed down by the water and the socks kept my wet shoes from grinding the skin off of my feet. So far so good!
