"Jill?" I could hear Chase's voice faintly.
Slowly everything returned to me. My conversation with Tobin. The look in his eyes right before he got in the car.
The car.
He had run me over? That little bitch.
I groaned a little when I tried to open my eyes.
Chase was looking at me, his eyes filled with concern.
"You're awake! How are you feeling?" He asked when he noticed I had opened my eyes.
"Tobin..." I croaked.
"We don't need to talk about that right now. Are you hurt?" Chase pushed a few strands of my hair behind my ear. I slowly got up. Lying on the concrete wasn't that pleasant.
"He hit me with his car." I said incredulously.
"I know. How's your head?"
"Who even does that!" I started to get fed up.
"Jill, please just tell me if you're in pain."
"He fucking ran me over with his car! That's just rude!" That son of a poodle!
"I guess you're fine." Chase sighed.
"I'm not fine. I'm pissed!" A sharp pain went through my head when I shouted. I hissed and brought my hand to the place where it hurt.
"Okay, maybe my head hurts a little." I said, feeling defeated.
Chase chuckled.
"You can rant all you want later. Now let me be a good boyfriend and tell me where it hurts." Chase said as if he was talking to a child.
I sighed and started to focus on my body. I guess I'd had too much adrenaline in my system to actually feel the pain. Now that I was focusing on it I really didn't feel that great.
My ribs felt a little sensitive so I raised my shirt to see if it was bruised.
I gasped when I saw a big bruise on my lower ribs. It was already getting pretty dark blue and purple. With a nice hint of yellow. It looked like a freaking painting.
"I guess my ribs hurt." I stated as if it wasn't obvious enough.
Chase held his hand above the bruise. "May I?" He asked carefully. I nodded.
His cold hands touched my bruise very gently. It actually felt nice. Then he started pushing lightly on the bruise. Yep, that definitely hurt.
"Sorry. They're not broken though, only bruised." Chase said after pulling my shirt back down.
"Nothing ice can't solve then." I added.
"What about your head? It might be a concussion." Chase took my hand and guided me to the car.
"I can still remember everything, no dizziness or nausea. I'll be fine." I shrugged.
Right before I got into the car Chase engulfed me in a big hug.
"You had me worried there. I couldn't see that well but at some points Tobin looked like he was ready to murder you and then when I saw the car coming your way... Fuck. I'm glad he didn't hit you that hard." Chase hadn't let me go yet and I didn't mind. It was nice to feel safe again and for the first time today I started to relax.
"You said fuck." I laughed.
"Hmm?" Chase took a step back so he could see my expression.
"You said fuck. It's weird." I giggled. Okay, maybe I needed some medical attention. Jill doesn't giggle.
"Let's get you home before you start bleeding all over me." Chase shook his head. "And I'm the weird one." He mumbled.
I punched his arm. "I heard that."
Suddenly it registered what Chase had said to me. I brought my hand to my temple and noticed I was indeed bleeding. Gross. I really didn't want a scar there.
When we got home I took the first aid kit and Chase patched me up.
"Hang on, I'm gonna cancel my plans tonight." Chase said while grabbing his phone.
"What? No way." I took his phone from him.
"Jill, I'm not gonna leave you alone when you might have a concussion." He looked at me like I was a crazy person. I probably was.
"I'm not gonna be alone. I'm going to a high school party!" I said with fake enthusiasm.
Chase snorted. "What?"
With all the commotion today I forgot to tell him.
"Ronan asked me to a high school party. I figured why not, new experiences and all." I liked the people I was tutoring and Ronan had asked me to come to one of their parties. I could even invite Gwen.
I'd never been before. I went to college parties, yes, but never high school parties. Mainly because people were too scared to ask me.
The only one that ever went was Jake. But he didn't need to be invited. He'd just crash a party, play with some girls and go home. Kinda like a playdate.
A playdate with horny teenagers, that is.
"Somehow it's hard to imagine you at a high school party. Are you sure it's a good idea right now?" Chase didn't sound convincing. He already knew I was determined to go.
"Don't worry, I won't drink and if I'm not well I'll go home." I rolled my eyes, pretending to be irritated.
"Fine." Chase sighed. "And if you're bored you can always hang out with me and my friends. Nate misses you." Chase grinned.
"Aw, I miss him too. He's a cutie." I said mischievously.
Chase narrowed his eyes. "Don't call my friends cutie."
I'd never seen him jealous before and maybe it was the concussion talking but it was kinda hot. I scooted closer. "Why not?" I asked innocently.
"Because" Chase looked me straight in the eyes. "that's Code's nickname."
I started laughing very unladylike. I had not expected that one.
The rest of the day we talked about my chat with Tobin. We didn't really know what his next step was gonna be. I figured running me over with a fucking car was enough but Chase was still worried. I guess all there was left to do was to wait.
After that I had to explain everything again to Gwen. She definitely needed an explanation as to why I wasn't drinking tonight. Chase filled her in on everything while I was trying on outfits that were loose enough around the ribs. I went for a flowy top.
I'd suggested to go topless but Chase didn't agree. I wonder why.
"That puddingfucker." Gwen stated. "I never liked him anyway."
"Gwen, you never met the guy." I said. She'd only see the aftermath. I had just broken up with Tobin when I met Gwen.
"Wait. Puddingfucker?" I laughed.
"I always figured American Pie would've been better if it was about pudding instead of pie." Gwen shrugged.
"American Pudding does have a nice ring to it." Oh the things we think about in our spare time.
"I know! Now let's get shitfaced... On water. Boo." Gwen pouted.
"Drink all you want Gwen, I don't mind. You too Chase." I winked at him. He was still eyeing my outfit, I guess he approved.
"I'll drink for two!" Gwen said with a newfound enthusiasm. Oh boy. That was not what I meant.
"We better get going." I said when I noticed how late it had gotten.
Chase gave me another hug, careful not to touch my ribs.
"I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked. He didn't wait for me to answer and brought his lips to mine. Suddenly I wouldn't mind ditching the party and stay home with Chase all night.
"Don't be cute, that's gross." Gwen said before the kiss could deepen. She was right, I didn't like those obnoxious couples with their excessive public displays of affection either.
"Yep, tomorrow. Just send me a text." I answered Chase.
Ten minutes later we were welcomed by Ronan at his front door. Apparently we were a little late because a lot of people were already drooling all over each other. Most of them couldn't even walk in a straight line anymore. Damn. Things happened quickly here.
"Woot! Barbie and The Thrill are here!" Ronan shouted when he saw us. He went forward to give Gwen and I a hug at the same time. Unfortunately he touched the wrong side and I held my breath. That shit hurt. I made a mental note to go see a doctor tomorrow. Being high on pain killers didn't sound like such a bad idea right now.
"Ronan!" I tried to say enthusiastically, but the pain hadn't gone away completely.
"You okay there Jill?" Ronan asked.
"Yep, I've been fighting with gangsters, you know, the usual." I deadpanned.
Gwen snorted. "Gangsters." She muttered.
I stayed talking with Ronan for a little longer while Gwen found her way to the drinks. We were like magnets when it came to finding alcohol at a party. We were like those pigs sniffing for truffles.
I followed Ronan to his kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge.
"Really? Water?" Ronan asked. "I expected more from you Jill." He winked.
"Oh Ronan, you have no idea. But not tonight, there's a chance I might have a concussion." I explained with a smirk. I could tell Ronan wasn't sure if he should take me seriously or not. He didn't need to know the details and luckily he just shrugged and grabbed a bottle of beer.
When I looked around I noticed Gwen sitting in a circle with a bunch of other people from school. I recognised Mitch and Trent. They were playing 'Never have I ever' and by the looks of it, Gwen was kicking all of their asses. I didn't expect any different from her.
I arrived at the group of people when Gwen was downing another shot. She looked up and gave a big sloppy grin when she saw me.
"Jilly! I love you! I'm so glad you're still alive!" She yelled. Gwen was the kinda person that got very loud when she had a few drinks.
"Please tell me you're kicking some high school butt." I plopped down next to her.
"You two should kiss!" Trent yelled.
"Seems like someone is as horny as a unicorn." I raised my eyebrow. The rest of the group laughed a little louder than they would've when they were sober.
"I see what you did there." Some random guy with blond hair said. He looked familiiar though, but so did everyone else at this party.
"Well aren't you clever ... dude." I wanted to say his name but then realised I had no idea what his name was.
Blond guy gasped. "How can you not know my name? I have French with you!"
Oops. Apparently I did know the guy.
"Dude, I don't pay attention to anything in class." I told him honestly.
"Yeah, I've seen you and Snake play Uno. My name's Nick by the way." He added.
"Right! You're Matt the second." He was a friend of Kate's boyfriend Matt and he looked like his friend too. Since Matt was more popular, I had named Nick Matt the second.
"The second? You wound me, Jill." His hand went to his heart. I could see he didn't actually care.
"Hey next time I'm playing Uno with Snake, grab a chair and join us." I shot him a smile and he returned it.
"Wait, you're not gonna sell me as a slave or anything right?" He joked. Although I swear I could see a flicker of worry in his eyes.
"Only if you cheat." I looked him dead in the eye. I laughed when he visible gulped.
I watched them for a while during their drinking game but it kinda sucks when you're not playing yourself. Trent kept asking for Gwen and I to kiss. I had to slap him a few times, but he just laughed it away.
A few feet away I saw someone else I knew. Someone I'd already seen today and wouldn't mind never seeing again. Yep, Tasha was there too. She was already far gone. She was practically leaning on some random guy and tripping over her own feet. Wearing high heels hadn't been the best choice for her today.
I felt like a creeper staring at her but just when I wanted to look away the guy started kissing her and to my surprise Tash seemed to be fighting it but failed. She kept pushing the guy against his chest but she didn't have the strength to succeed. I looked around if I could see one of her friends and eventually spotted them on the other side of the room, minding their own business.
One of them looked Tasha's way and smiled, then focused back on the conversation she was having. Probably about credit cards or panties or something.
Could they not see that Tasha wasn't in the mood to be groped by some guy?
I sighed and went over to them. Tasha was visibly losing the battle. She was too drunk to fight and started to cave in.
I yanked her away from the guy, maybe a little too rough, but at least it worked.
"What the hell?" The guy screamed. I got goosebumps just looking at him. He was just as sober as I was. He knew what he was doing.
I decided to ignore the guy and drag Tasha outside. Luckily the creepy dude didn't follow us.
"Wh-Jill?" Tasha slurred. I rolled my eyes. I already had one drunk friend to take care of. I didn't want to be bothered by a drunk overly hairsprayed girl I didn't even like.
"Damn, how much did you drink?" I kept both hands on her arms so she wouldn't fall over.
"Just one. Weirrrd. I feel funny." I grabbed the red plastic cup and looked at it. Just one? That creep probably roofied her.
"Just one? Did someone get that drink for you?" I asked. I really wanted to shake her and ask her to focus but I knew it wouldn't make a difference.
"Yesss. Didn't get my own drink. Stacey did!" She wanted to grab the cup again but I threw it away. One of her friends got Tasha the drink and then ditched her with some guy, she obviously had amazing friends.
I grabbed my phone so I could call Kate. They were kinda friends.
When I noticed it was 2 AM I figured it was too late. Kate was probably already asleep.
"Listen, someone spiked your drink. Tell me where you live and I'll take you home." Lucky for her I drove here. Figured I'd better drive if I couldn't drink anyway.
"What? That guy... Oh no." Her eyes started to water. I guess she realised she could've been assaulted tonight. I of all people had saved her. Oh, the irony.
Another thing that bugged me was why someone had spiked her drink in the first place. She was known to be easy. There was no nice way of putting it. So why even bother to put something in her drink?
I locked her in my car and ran back inside to get a bottle of water and tell Gwen what I was doing. When I came back Tasha was almost asleep.
"Water. Drink up." I handed her the big bottle and she started drinking as if she had been playing in the desert.
Her house was pretty big and I was silently hoping someone would take over from me once we got inside. Unfortunately, the house seemed empty. I helped her up the stairs and into her room.
Her room was pink. No surprise there.
I was glad she was able to get out of her clothes by herself. She plopped onto the bed after that and I had found a bucket for her in the mean time. Just in case she needed to vomit. Or just in case I had to vomit from the overdose of pink and glitter in this room.
"Jill?" Tasha asked softly. Her makeup was all over the place and she looked vulnerable. A look I hadn't seen before.
"Yeah Tash?" I asked.
"Will you stay tonight?" She was looking at the ceiling.
I sighed. Someone should probably keep an eye on her. She probably didn't have a lot of drugs in her system but you never knew.
"Sure." I muttered. I guess her friends weren't gonna show up anytime soon.
"Thanks." She mumbled right before she fell asleep.
I had to fight the urge to write 'I have fake boobs' on her. In any other situation I would've.
-
I woke up when my phone started buzzing. Tasha was still sleeping next to me. I figured it was safe to leave her now, since she was still breathing.
I didn't wait for her to wake up. It's not like we were friends and I wasn't in the mood for an awkward conversation with her.
Leaving her house almost felt like the walk of shame. I was still in the same clothes as the night before but I didn't feel like going home first before going to Chase. He'd just have to deal with me being gross.
That's the price you pay for being in a relationship with me.
When I arrived I didn't get greeted by Bus. Again. Someone should teach that dog some manners.
Chase was talking on the phone with someone, his back towards me. He was wearing sweatpants and a tshirt. I liked this disheveled look on him. We could be gross together. Even though his gross was kinda hot. Damn him.
He turned around and gave me a small wave when he spotted me. He hadn't even put his contacts in so I figured texting me was the first thing he did when he had woken up.
He put his glasses on the table so he could pinch the bridge of his nose.
"Alright. Thanks man." He said before he put his phone down.
"Hey Chase." I greeted him.
"Hi." Chase seemed fidgety all of a sudden.
"What's up?" I asked after a peck on the lips.
"Eh... yeah. We need to talk." Chase bit his lower lip. I did not like the sound of that.
"That's what people say when they want to break up." My first thought went to Tobin. Had he threatened Chase again?
"No no! Sorry. I mean I need to tell you about last night." Chase cleared his throat.
Last night? Why was he being so nervous? Had something happened? He did seem a bit hungover. What if he did something stupid while he was drunk? He needed to tell me soon or my mind would go into overdrive.
"Spit it out, Chase or I'm gonna start thinking you cheated on me." I tried to joke but couldn't help but go there in my mind. When a guy says he needs to talk you know it's serious.
"Don't be ridiculous." Chase said with a nervous grin on his face.
"Well..." I sighed.
"Right. You know how you got that piercing when you were drunk but you thought it'd be cooler if it were a tattoo?" Chase scratched the back of his head.
Oh man, did I remember. I played around with my tongue piercing. I was scared shitless when I woke up that morning.
"I remember." I narrowed my eyes slightly. Something was definitely up.
Chase bit his lower lip.
"I got drunk yesterday and kindagotatattoo." Chase mumbled.
"What? You got drunk and...?" He was talking so incoherently. If my curiosity wasn't killing me I would've laughed.
"I got drunk yesterday and woke up this morning with a tattoo." Chase explained.
I started laughing. Who would've thought? A tattoo. Chase of all people!
"What are you waiting for! Show me!" I was almost jumping around. Why did it feel like Christmas morning?
"I was just talking to Brad on the phone. He said I'd been so convinced that he didn't have much choice but to ink me. Alright, I'll show you." Chase exhaled deeply. As if he was mentally preparing for this moment.
I wondered why. Maybe it was something ridiculous like an 'I heart mom' tattoo. I would laugh at him so hard.
He lifted the sleeve of his tshirt and showed me the tattoo on his inner bicep. It was still red around the edges. It definitely wasn't a fake one.
I started laughing.
"A chemical structure? Really? Couldn't you have gotten a bloody moose or something? You make tattoos seem dorky." I laughed and studied the tattoo more in detail.
"Why would I get a bloody moose, Jill?" Chase sounded amused. I guess his nerves had dissipated.
"I don't know, it sounded manly and butch." I shrugged.
"Wait a minute." I said. I recognised this chemical structure.
"Here it comes." Chase muttered.
"Is that dopamine?" I asked.
Chase's guilty look said enough. Dopamine was his nickname for me. This was the weirdest yet sweetest thing someone had ever done.
I shouldn't give him that much credit though, he was drunk after all.
I brought my hands to his face and gave him a big kiss. I needed a relationship manual. What did you do when your boyfriend had your nickname in the form of a chemical structure tattooed on his arm? A thank you note? A basket of fruit?
I settled for a kiss.
Chase visibly relaxed and kissed me back. It didn't take long for him to take control and deepen it.
"So you're okay with this? It doesn't seem like something an overly attached boyfriend would do?" He asked after he broke the kiss.
"Oh it is. But I can handle it." I winked. Chase gave me one of his genuine smiles.
"So what are the plans for today?" I asked.
Unfortunately, his answer wasn't 'let's go to bed and do things to each other that would put others to shame.'.
"A picnic!" He announced with a childlike enthusiasm.
"Eh... Chase?" I pointed to the window so he could see it was pouring outside.
"A picnic inside?" Chase asked.
A few minutes later we were sitting in the middle of the living room on a blanket. It seemed as if Chase had planned this because there was a lot of food. As a dessert there were strawberries with whipped cream. I couldn't wait for dessert.
"So how does it feel? Having a tattoo, I mean." I asked Chase curiously.
"I'm a changed man, Jill. I'm a badass now." He flexed his arm. I snorted. Sure he was.
I took the whipped cream and sprayed some on his neck.
"Aw that feels gross." Was Chase's reaction.
I moved so I could sit on his lap and started licking the whipped cream. Boy did I love whipped cream.
"That doesn't feel gross." Chase stated. His voice slightly uneven.
I took the can of whipped cream again and Chase watched me carefully in anticipation. I put the nozzle near my mouth and sprayed it. That was the way I always ate whipped cream. There's no other way.
"Hey!" I shouted when Chase took the can away from me and started spraying my neck. He didn't stop there though, he kept going lower and lower and soon enough I was covered in the whipped cream.
"Dude. Overkill." I said.
"What can I say? I'm hungry." Chase said with a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. I didn't think he was talking about food anymore.
I didn't have time to think about it either because he started licking me clean. It was a gross and fun feeling at the same time.
"Didn't your kinky bucket list had one with food?" I asked him while he laid me down and hovered over me.
"It did." Chase said in between kisses.
"Let's cross one from the list then." I suggested.
"That's a great idea." Chase said with dark eyes.
I snorted when I noticed he still had some whipped cream near his ear. It almost seemed like the beginning of a white beard.
"I love you, bad girl." Chase said while licking some whipped cream from his finger.
"I love you, dork."
