"This was supposed to be easy." Gideon whined softly, letting her head sink onto Lisa's shoulder.
"My poor pet monster." she petted Gideon's face like one would a dog. Then Lisa jerked her hand away with a digusted look on her face. "Did you really just lick my hand?"
"It was lick or bite. Be grateful I already ate." Gideon shrugged and laughed when Lisa pushed her away. Gideon was just tired enough that she let herself fall. It had been a hell of a day, and it was only noon. The Wild Call in the morning, the late and painful breakfast, freaking out over whether or not convict knew what she was.... it was definitely a caffiene heavy day in the works.
Lisa sighed and let Gideon sprawl on the grass. The witch Councillor was looking over Gideon's weekly lesson guide, trying to help the quixotic Councillor reformat it now that there were seven kids to mould. "Gideon's Rules. #1 Do not lie to yourself #2 Don't get caught #3 Don't bluff #4 There is always choice #5 Keep your word #6 Be your own hero. Gids, do you really think these kids are ready for some of that heavy shit?" she asked, leaning back to use her friend as a pillow. Only the witch was comfortable touching Gideon, and even then it was a rare thing. But magic makes an awfully useful sheild sometimes.
"It works because of the symmetry. I have six rules and six weeks. I can usually get one rule pounded into their heads by the end of a week, so it's a good layout. This week it's all about getting them started. I show them some basic survival skills, and in amongst the bivouacing, I pull them aside and impart my knowledge onto them." Gideon shrugged, combing her fingers through her friend's hair.
"So what are you doing with them after lunch?" Lisa asked, waving the golem over.
Xavier had just stepped outside from the Mess and Meet and wandered over to them, flopping down into the dog pile, but using the witch as his pillow. Even the golem was starting to look a little less polished as the week continued. Although all the Councillors are well trained for these intakes, it's still a hardship to survive them sometimes. And Gideon wasn't the only one finding her kids were more on the chaotic evil side of things than the side of the angels.
"After lunch, I'm doing my famously infamous blindfold rope." Gideon smiled as she said it, remembering her own experience with the team building exercise.
Gideon was the second person in the line up, Tyler right in front of her one of the only ones able to stand letting her touch him. Her intake mate behind her was a Bokor who was used to much much worse than even Gideon could do. The rest refused to let her physically near them, and at this stage, Gideon didn't blame them. The blindfold around her eyes actually made Gideon relax instead of tense up. She didn't have to deal with the look in the eyes of everyone around her, watching, waiting. Everyone looking for the first signs that she was going to be like the rest of her kind.
Tyler grunted and suddenly Gideon couldn't feel him under her hand anymore. "Tyler!" she called out, worried for the one person who seemed to tolerate her here.
Then she heard his laughter. "The rope goes over a giant hole in the snow! It's like four feet deep and full of powder snow." he laughed and suddenly Gideon felt herself pulled into the hole by her ankle. The Bokor behind her coming along for the ride so that the three of them were smooched into each other while the rest of the intake slipped on the edge of the hole and slid in a moment later. Six kids in a hole that was four feet deep meant that inevitably they were all arms and legs akimbo.
"Get the monster off me!" a very irritated voice demanded. Gideon quickly tucked her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, curling into as small a ball as possible so she wasn't touching anyone.
"Xavier! She's your intake mate, treat her with respect dammit!" Councillor Denis called out.
"Somethings can't be saved!" the golem hollared back.
"Somethings don't deserve it either." Gideon whispered to herself, having heard the arguements all before. Not waiting for the rest of the condemnations, Gideon scrambled out of the snowy hole, reaching behind her to grab Tyler so he knew where the rope was again. Standing at the lip of the hole, Gideon pushed away the thing inside her that hurt everyone around her and grabbed for her intake mates. Silently, she helped pull them all out, listening to the others trash talk her openly to the Councillor. They never even realized that she was the one straightening them all out, and when she slipped back to her spot behind Tyler, he simply patted her hand, the only one who understood.
They set off, the complaints falling away as they hadto bend and twist, scrambling to follow this rope through what felt like a playground, around pine trees and over a million square kilometers of deep snow. "Hey guys, I think we're going in circles." Gideon said calmly, knowing that the Councillor was nearby. She couldn't see, and had no magic to tell her that her guess was right, but something about this stretch of rope felt familiar, and she was only just starting to trust her instincts so she had to speak out. It's what Denis had been trying to teach her all week.
"Oh shut up freak." the surly witch muttered, having taken over the Bokor's position behind Gideon.
"You guys can hate me all you want, doesn't mean I'm not right. We're going in cirlces." Gideon stated firmly, unconsciously standing a little straighter.
"It's not that we hate you sweety. It's that you digust us." Lisa hissed at her, the witch barely willing to touch her to follow after.
Gideon felt the snarl on her face and sucked in a deep breath to try and keep it locked away. She was learning, but there was only this chance for her. Screw it up and there are dire things awaiting her. "Lisa, if you can't take the time to get to know the person, not the horror 온라인카지노게임, you might find someone worth knowing. But that's obviously beyond you yet, so when you grow up, let me know. I'd like to be friends." Gideon growled, putting Lisa's hand more firmly on her shoulder.
Three steps later and Tyler disappeared from under Gideon's fingers and everyone went tumbling again. Loud, hysterical belly laughter followed a breath later. "We're back in the hole again." Lisa sounded indignant and Gideon just laughed.
"I think I'm going to focus on my Incubus today. I don't have snow, but the hole I dug out yesterday should suffice. Once I get them all piled in there, he's not gonig to be able to ignore the way his... urges react to the proximity of the other males. After that, he's gonig to need a sit down with me. Xav, I'm gonig to let him know a little about your past so he knows to go talk to you ok?" Gideon warned.
"Sounds tea and cake to me." the golem replied. All three of them had lost some of the carefree fun of earlier, each remembering their own experiences that day. Gideon had started to learn that she can control the uncontrollable, Lisa was learning that no species was better than others and Xavier was still getting over his anger at being forced into a sex toy role. Not the grounds for a lasting friendship, but somehow the three of them came out the other side stronger than anyone had a right to expect.
The intakes all started to pour out of the doors, staring at the three Councillors whom were all still tangled up with each other. "This looks like an orgy getting off to a really slow start." Virgil tried to insinuate.
"If your definition of an orgy is only three people, I really need to show you my porn collection." Gideon retorted, making Lisa snort.
"No, because then he'd need therapy." The witch teased, pushing Xavier off her stomach so she could stand up.
Gideon rolled to her feet and helped Xavier to his. “Come on tin man. Let’s get this show on the road.” She grunted, the golem was far heavier than a man of the same proportions. Then again, being reanimated clay can do that to a guy.
The other intakes all drifted away, many looking over their shoulders to watch Gideon and intake five. It seemed that Gideon was either blessed, or cursed, to have the intake to watch this year. Either they'd be a blaze of glory, or a moth flying into the flame.
“Hassleberry has let me know that Addict is doing alright. However, for her own safety, as well as yours, her magic has been bottled. She’s going to go through some serious withdrawal once she realizes that not only can she not use dark magic, she can’t use magic at all. This is where I’m going to need all of you.” Gideon looked at them, serious and stern. “You all saw today what happens when you guys don’t police each other. Not a single one of you can claim that you didn’t know what she was doing. It takes time and effort to set off a Wild Call, and even if you guys don’t recognize the magic so much, you all know that she has a problem. One of you should have come to me.”
Gideon gestured with a tilt of her head and started to walk. The rest of intake five followed mutely after. They were all as tired as she was, and excepting the vampire who’d fed on a friend this morning, none of them were at their peak. As it was, Gideon was using her own nature to help quell the ebullient high the vamp was feeling. A belly full of witch blood would make her want to go burn something.
Without telling them what she was expecting from them all, Gideon lined them up at one end of a rope. It was loose and once they were blindfolded, she’d tie it off to the other end, just out of sight. Deciding to work with the group dynamic that was slowly starting to form, Gideon placed Virgil first, Luna second, Luc third, Ankou forth, Peter fifth and Ebony sixth. The Wendigo was the only creature here the vampire couldn’t feed off of. They all waiting until Fred Hassleberry led the witch Trinity out, her wrist heavily bandaged, and when she was silently deposited with the rest of her intake, Fred winked at Gideon and wandered off.
“He has a man crush on you.” Luc stated outloud.
Gideon raised an eyebrow at the Incubus. “You mean a bromance?”
Luc actually smiled, the first time he didn’t look like someone had kicked his puppy. “No, I meant in that he is attracted to you but also fears you greatly.” Both of Gideon’s eyebrows raised at the Incubus’ words and he flushed. Ducking his head low, the Incubus still continued despite everyone’s attention being on him. “I’m kind of the sexy version of Wikipedia.” He admitted softly.
Gideon burst out laughing and actually hugged the Incubus. “You’re alright Luc, you’re alright.” She grinned, wondering if anyone would notice that he’d just earned his name back.
