"Looks like you've earned yourself a detention Jill." As if I was gonna stay longer on a Friday.
"I didn't really do anything, you asked me to read the note so I did." I really didn't feel like I was in the wrong here. Usually I accept a punishment when I know I deserved it.
"You were disrupting class." The teacher argued. I rolled my eyes.
"You can't just punish people because something didn't turn out the way you wanted it to. You asked me to read the note so I did and now you don't like the consequences. You were probably thinking I'd get embarrassed or something but I didn't. You're obviously just giving me a detention because you didn't like the outcome of your own actions. To me that comes across as abuse of power and even immature. Is that really how you want your students to see you?"
I'm starting to think I enherited mom's rants. I just fight for what I believed in I guess? That sounded more like a lawyer. My parents would be so proud. Or maybe not in this particular situation.
The class went silent. The teacher seemed like she wanted to say something. She opened her mouth and closed it again. Then she opened it again.
"Let's just forget about this. You were saying something about reading a page?" I asked. I didn't like all the attention aimed at me and obviously I'd put the teacher in a tough spot and I didn't mean to do that either. I just wanted to get my point across.
She looked at me for what seemed like an eternity. She eventually turned around and resumed her lesson. I released a breath I didn't know I was holding. She could've sent me to the principal or something but she didn't.
"Dude, teach me!" The guy next to me said, he looked as if I'd just saved the world or something. I didn't know the kid.
I smirked "You have much to learn, young grasshopper."
He looked confused. Really? He didn't get that reference? I'm so disappointed in humanity.
After class I was wondering if I should talk to my teacher. I mean, it must've been humiliating for her. Well, what's done is done I guess.
Suddenly two hands grabbed my shoulders and I got pushed back against something. Or someone.
"You totally kicked ass Jill." I looked up, leaning my head against Code's chest and saw him beaming at me.
I sighed. Code released my shoulders and hugged me from behind, wrapping his arms around me and resting his chin on the top of my head. "What's wrong Jilly?"
I liked the position we were in. My dad would sometimes hold me like that when I was still a kid. It made me feel safe.
"I don't know, I feel like I was disrespecting her."
Code turned me around so I was facing him. "She totally deserved it. What's up with you this week? Are you PMSing?" He looked grossed out.
I slapped his arm. That was probably the first time we were having a serious conversation so I should've expected that one of us would ruin it.
He was right, though. Why did I even care? I usually don't. Aw man, I really didn't want to get my period!
I told Code I'd be at his house at ten and then we headed to our own classes. Last class of the week, finally.
My house was empty when I arrived. I had some time to kill so I headed to my dad's place. I decided not to take the car, since it wasn't a long walk.
The door was locked. I was hoping at least Beth would be there. I had a key but it would just be another empty house.
I went to the grocery store to get some snacks and headed back home. A movie it is! I decided to watch A Clockwork Orange. Again. I could watch that movie every day and still not get sick of it.
