LXX. Heartbreak Weather
The highlight of Odessa's night was watching Oliver jump off jump from the second floor of the apartment complex and dog pile into everyone as they cheered his name over and over again. He was drunk, drunker than most of them, but Oliver was a fun drunk. He made people laugh, and it also made his friends worry. "I swear he's going to kill himself one day." Hailey said when they walked back into Miguel's home.
"C'mon, we all know Oliver's indestructible." Grayson replied, his long arm slung over her shoulder while holding a cup of beer in the other.
"Yeah, I've heard that before." Odessa muttered. She looked across the room and saw Miguel still making out with that girl. "Jesus, can he breathe?"
Grayson cackled. "Who cares? Go Miguel!"
Hailey whacked his chest. "Stop doing that."
Oliver came stumbling back into the apartment, his flashing glasses pushed on top of his red head. "That was awesome!" He laughed with a wide smile on his red face.
"You're about to give me a heart attack. No more jumping off stuff!" Odessa demanded with a stern look.
He laughed again and waved her off. "Okay, mom. Quit worrying. It's a partyyyy." He sang at the end and ruffled her blonde hair.
She rolled her eyes. She saw Eli waving her over and Odessa left her friend's sides, going back to the kitchen area. "You missed Oliver almost dying."
He laughed. "Seriously?"
She hummed. "Yeah, he's an idiot. It's probably a good thing Demetri's not here. He'd go into cardiac arrest."
"Most likely." Eli chuckled. Eyeing the people dancing, he took her by the hand. "C'mon."
Odessa smiled. The pair moved past everybody and Eli faced her. Still holding her hand, he spun her around and Odessa laughed. He pulled her in close and she wrapped one of her arms around his neck, laughing again when he rested his forehead on her shoulder.
Hailey was dancing with Grayson when she saw Sam standing at the door. When her face fell, she looked over and saw Miguel still with that girl. "Oh, shit."
"Sam!" Miguel exclaimed when he saw her.
Odessa and Eli pulled away from each other. She watched him jump up from the couch as Sam stormed off. "Man, this really isn't his night." She muttered.
"You think I gave him bad advice?"
"No shit."
A random kid came running into the apartment. "FIGHT!" He screamed and that's when Odessa heard commotion coming from outside.
"Ah, hell." Grayson groaned and everybody started running out of the apartment.
"Oliver!" Yelled Hailey.
"I'm coming. I'm coming." Oliver, who was in the kitchen, yelled back and he put his beer down on the counter.
Odessa was careful not to bump into anybody and her eyes widened when she saw Tory and Sam fighting. "Sam!" She yelled.
Robby and Miguel sprinted to the fighting girls and tried breaking them apart. "Sam, what are you doing?" Miguel shouted as he yanked her away.
"She's been working with Kreese this whole time!" Sam verbalized in anger. "Silver paid the ref at the All Valley for Cobra Kai to win and then paid the ref at the Sekai Taikai."
Odessa stood there, frozen, and all of their faces turned into shock. She turned to Tory and Tory looked at her, embarrassed and ashamed.
"Oh, I knew it." Hailey sneered out loud and glared at her.
"What?" Miguel uttered and Robby looked at Tory with a confused look.
"Why did you only come forward now, huh? Cause you're a coward." Sam spat.
"Screw you, Larusso." Tory breathed out. She looked around at all of their faces. "I knew this was a mistake."
She took off. Odessa stared at her as she walked away, her jaw tightened but her eyes glossy, because she was right. But that didn't mean it didn't hurt. She left Eli's side and followed her.
"Dess, where are you going?" He called out.
"Odessa!" Oliver did as well, but they were ignored.
"Why, Tory?" Odessa questioned, her voice indicating how hurt she was.
Tory kept walking, but her hands trembled with regret. "Leave me alone, Odessa."
"You made me feel like a failure. I thought I was letting all of my friends down, but it was because of you!" She raised her voice.
She spun around to face her and Odessa halted. "I didn't want to, okay? You don't know what it's like being there!" She shouted.
"Then tell me! Stop hiding things from me. Stop hiding things from Robby. Why are you working with Kreese?"
"It's none of your business, Odessa."
Odessa tightened her jaw. "It is my business because Silver almost ruined my life. He almost ruined Sam's family's life. He's almost destroyed everything we've worked so hard for. I'm trying to help you, Tory. Why won't you let me help you?"
Tory stormed up to her, making Odessa flinch. "Because I don't need your help! Why can't you understand that? You're making yourself look stupid trying to push your insecurities onto me." She snapped with a red face. "You don't understand anything, so stop trying to act like you do."
Odessa blinked rapidly and watched her storm off again, not following her that time. She turned her face away and gulped, refusing to cry but she felt it so strongly.
A hand was placed on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" Robby asked her softly.
She hated how good her heart was, because it was one of her biggest downfalls. Odessa knew something was happening to Tory, and she wanted to help her, but Tory didn't want her help. And now she knew the truth that she was speculating all along. All she wanted to feel was hatred for Silver. "She's your problem now." She answered him and walked away to find Hailey so that they could leave.
Odessa thought maybe she'd get a whole day to reflect on everything that's happened now that she finally knew the truth about Cobra Kai. But then Sam called all of them for a meeting, and all she could think about was how exhausted she was. Eli parked his car in the Larusso front yard, but he didn't get out yet. He looked at her in the passenger seat, her head laid back on the head rest. "Are you alright?"
Odessa was spaced out, her eyes directly on his car mirror. She released a long sigh. "I'm fine." She nodded apprehensively, but turned her head to smile at him. "I'm just kinda tired is all."
"Are you sure?" She nodded again. "Y'know I always know when you're lying to me."
"I know. I just don't feel like explaining it right now."
Half smiling, Eli nodded. "That's okay." He got out of the car and circled around the front to open her door. "We'll talk about it another time."
Odessa smiled at him.
The pair walked hand in hand into the backyard, most of the team was already there. Oliver, standing with his arm around Demetri's shoulder, spotted them and waved. "There they are!"
"Ah, finally!" His partner expressed dramatically.
"We told him everything already." Sam told her.
"Yeah, I'm still having trouble processing," Demetri added. "You're telling me Sensei Silver paid the ref at the All Valley and framed Kreese for a crime he didn't commit?" He recited everything in shock.
"Yeah, pretty much." Oliver nodded.
"Exactly." Grayson hummed.
Demetri pointed at him. "Never let me miss a house party again."
"Well, if you'd quite your job, you wouldn't have to."
"I need the money, Ol!"
Miguel shook his head at them and focused on the others. "We need to tell the Senseis."
"What are they gonna do? We all saw what happened to my dad when he confronted Silver." Sam brought up as she tried her hardest not to give him any attention.
"Yeah, and I don't feel getting caught up in another karat battle with a bunch of grown men." Hailey added in with her arms crossed.
"And besides, if this ref and Stingray are on Silver's payroll, they'll never admit to anything." Demetri stated.
Odessa groaned at the thought.
"I'm not sure about that," Bert chimed in and they all turned to him. "I know he's in Cobra Kai and I'm in Eagle Fang, but Stingray's my friend. He wouldn't lie to me." He frowned. "At least I hope he wouldn't."
They looked skeptical. "I don't know. I feel like we need a plan more. . .forceful." Said Oliver.
"We're not beating anybody up, Oliver." Hailey said with annoyance.
He pointed at her. "Yet."
Odessa rolled her eyes. She put her hand on Bert's shoulder. "We'll give it a try, okay?" She said in a motherly tone.
He nodded his head.
"Great, we're putting our trust in a 13 year old," Hailey said sarcastically and dropped her arms. "Let's get this over with."
"Yeah, she's not having a good day." Grayson laughed awkwardly and quickly followed her.
They started to leave the backyard. Odessa turned to Eli. "I'll meet you by the car." She muttered.
Silently nodding, he walked away and she jogged to catch up with Sam. "Hey," she said gently and put her hand on her arm.
Sam stopped walking. "Hey." She said back and slowly crossed her arms, and a sigh passed her lips.
"Are you okay after last night?"
She scoffed. "Which part?"
"All of it, I guess?" Odessa responded.
Sam pursed her lips and her eyes switched to the side. Odessa followed them, seeing that they were on Miguel. "I know I should I be more angry, but, all I can think about is Tory and Cobra Kai." She admitted.
Odessa nodded.
She looked at her again. "Did you know? That they cheated?" She asked her, hoping that she would say no.
"I had a feeling, that day at the dojo. I could just see how off Tory was, and then my dad could see how Silver and the ref were acting," Odessa explained while shaking her head. Her shoulders slumped over. "I tried talking to her, tried getting her to tell me what Cobra Kai was up to, but, she's in so deep."
Sam studied her disappointment. "You feel bad for you." She stated.
Odessa titled her head, her lips turning downward. "You know that I love you, snd your family, and that I love my team, but—"
"I know, I know," her friend nodded, understanding what she was trying to say. "You have a really good heart, Dess. But do you really think you should be using it on Tory?"
Odessa knew the concept of second chances. She'd given everybody a second chance, some more than that. She understood what it meant to not give up on people, and it had hurt her in the past. And she was so hurt by what Tory said to her at the party. Was she really just making a fool of herself trying to be a hero. "I'm probably gonna regret it, but, yeah. Everybody needs help, Sam. Including Tory."
"We don't have to go out, y'know? We can just stay in."
Christian fixed the collar of his blue button up shirt. He stood in front of the bathroom mirror, and he looked at Thalia in the reflection, then he smiled. "It'll be fun, Tal. I haven't went out and had fun in a while."
Thalia was frowning. "They want to go clubbing, Chris."
"I can control myself, I promise. I haven't had a drink in over a year." He promised her. Christian turned around and faced her. "Let's just go out and have a great time. Relax."
"I don't know how to do that right now."
Half smiling, he walked up to her and pushed her hair behind her ear, Thalia looking at him through her eyelashes, making him melt. "You deserve a night out. We both do. I haven't had a boy's night with Johnny since his 21st birthday. Remember that?"
Thalia chuckled. "Yeah, I remember. You two drank so much that you guys ran naked through that corn field."
He laughed. "There won't be any of that, believe me." He moved past her to go into her room.
She followed behind him and leaned against the door frame, watching him sit on the bed to put his shoes on. His eyelashes were still so long, dark and full. He was older now, but he was still as beautiful as the day they met. His eyes such a clear blue, Odessa's eyes, and his smile sweet and kind. "You're beautiful." She found herself saying.
Christian lifted his head and he smiled at her, showing his teeth. "Not so much any more."
"Don't say that." Thalia walked into her room and sat beside him, his eyes following her movements. Her hand reached up and brushed the side of his cheek, making him smile very gently. "I love you, Chris."
"Oh, and I love you just as much." He practically whispered.
