Days had passed and Tory still wasn't responding to any of her calls. Because of her absence, the senseis decided that Demetri would take her position, making all of them happy, especially Oliver. The group of friends spent the next few days preparing for Spain, which mainly consisted of Hailey dragging Odessa and Sam to the mall with her to buy clothes. "It just doesn't feel right with Tory not going," Odessa said while walking into the fifth clothing store.
"She still won't talk to her? I've been trying to call her for days now," said Sam.
"No. I keep asking Robby if he's heard from her, but he hasn't either." She explained, frowning. "I hate that she feels like she can't come to any of us for help."
"You're surprised? Because I'm not," said Hailey, strolling through the racks of clothes.
Odessa scoffed. "Hailey?"
She groaned and turned around. "What? We've seen this play out a thousand times, Dess. Remember?" She looked to Sam. "How many times has she betrayed you? How many times has she blown up on us?"
"Her mom just died, Hailey," Sam said in a gentle voice.
"And I feel horrible for her, but we're her friends. If she doesn't trust us enough let us be there for her, then what's the point of being friends at all?"
The girls went silent. Hailey went back to shopping, Odessa and Sam looked at each other. "How do you feel about it?" Sam asked her.
"Honestly? I still feel like shit." Odessa muttered but ultimately followed Hailey to shop, hoping to distract herself.
Hailey held up a purple, ankle length going out dress. "Tell me I wouldn't look hot in this," she spoke and held it against herself, smiling big. "I'll hate Grayson not even thinking about the girls in Barcelona."
Oliver hated airplanes. Oliver had a fear of heights. Oliver was trying hard not to have a panic attack. "I hate this. I hate this. Why did I agree to this?" He panicked while the plane was already in the air.
Demetri, who was trying hard not to pay attention to the way he was squeezing his hand excruciatingly tight, eyed him. "Since when are you afraid of heights?"
"Look, I've watched Grey's Anatomy at least twelve times in my life, and you know what episode always sticks with me? The plane crash episode. So yes, Metri, I'm afraid of heights because I don't want to end up like Lexi Grey."
Demetri blinked multiple times. "Uhhh," he hesitated, not knowing how to respond to that. "Maybe it would be better if you lowered the blind?" He suggested, glancing at the open blind that exposed the clear blue sky.
Oliver stared at him silently for a few seconds. "Yeah. Yeah, that's a good idea," he decided and used his free hand to close the blind. A few seconds later, Oliver shook his head. "No, no, it doesn't make it better." He panicked again and squeezed Demetri's hand.
The brunette laughed slightly then turned his head, gritting his teeth painfully.
Odessa and Eli were seated not far back from them. She was reading book while his head was rested on her shoulder, nearly falling asleep considering they were woken up before dawn. She felt a presence next to her and Odessa turned her head, seeing her dad crouched by her. "Hey, you doing okay?" Christian asked her.
She grinned. "Yeah, I'm okay. You're not supposed to be out of your seat.
"Yeah, I know, but I'm just checking on you. We've never flown before."
"I'm fine, dad." Odessa glanced at Eli from the corner of her eye. "As long as he doesn't start snoring, we're all good."
Christian chuckled. "Okay." He patted her arm and stood up, going back to his seat.
Eli groaned and shifted in his seat. His head buried itself more into her neck and Odessa smiled, going back to reading her book.
Odessa had never been to a different country before so when she stepped off the plane and saw the gorgeous city of Barcelona, she was in complete shock. All of the tall buildings and the views were stunning. She took as many pictures as she could, sending them all to her mother. She rolled through the many encouraging text she had received from her friends back home, wishing her good luck.
Chris good luck, dessi!
Kenny kick ass out there, dess! I'll be cheering from home
Son 🙋🏼♂️ good luck, mom! can't wait to watch you fight!
Odessa smiled widely. "E, look at this text from Bert. He's so cute," she expressed, showing Eli her phone.
Eli read the text and laughed. "I can't believe you two are still on that bit."
"Hey, that's our child you're talking about. Your words first, not mine."
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, yeah, I remember, Mrs. Hawkman."
Odessa giggled and he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. They walked in the middle of their team, following behind all of the other international teams to the tournament hall.
Oliver was in shock when he entered the building. "Holy shit, this isn't intimidating at all," he voiced.
"This is the real deal." Grayson said from behind him.
The senseis had them line up at the edge of the mat. Christian felt nauseous thinking about all of the flashbacks he was getting to his last All Valley. Odessa and Oliver stood between Robby and Sam, all four of them holding their captains headbands. She was shaking with anticipation. "I'm nervous. How are you feeling?" She asked Oliver.
He looked around the large room, eyeing the many international teams. "Kind of like passing out, maybe throwing up, but I'm ready. My adrenaline's pumping." Oliver described and rubbed his hand together.
She chuckled. Suddenly, Odessa looked ahead of her and her smile faded when she saw a team of boys walk by dressed in black gis. Cobra Kai gis. "Oh, shit."
Seeing Kreese and Kim increased the shock levels. Oliver caught Grayson's eye in the line up, both of their jaws clenching. Odessa's stomach twisted. It was a whole new team, all boys, and they looked mean, especially their captains.
"I swear I'm seeing things right now," said Hailey with a judgmental expression on her face.
Odessa wasn't sure if it could get any worse, but when she saw Tory walk in and stand with the team, dressed in the black gi, a thousand different feelings punched her in the gut. The no emotions on her face was chilling because everything Odessa was feeling showed up on hers.
"Oh, no fucking way." Grayson said out loud, his jaw dropped open.
Odessa turned her head, staring at the side of Robby's face, the boy hurt and confused. She looked at Tory again and Odessa knew what was coming would end up with all of them getting hurt in more ways than one.
