We live in what is known as a rape culture. This topic might be very difficult for some of you to read.
1 in 3 women are raped or sexually assaulted in North America. It is not a joke EVER. It is not the victim's fault EVER. NO ONE ASKS TO BE RAPED.
And yes it is the most common thing to happen.
'Did you see what she was wearing? She was asking for it.'
'If you didn't want it to happen, you shouldn't have been at that party drinking.'
'Yeah but you enjoyed it didn't you?'
All of these are things I have HEARD SAID TO SURVIVORS. This is rape culture. We are taught that it is in the male nature to be a rapists. Men, you should be FURIOUS with that assumption. It's saying that you all are nothing more than rutting beasts. And we KNOW that's not the case.
Women- you should be able to walk down the street NAKED and drunk as a noble in the eighteenth century and still not be raped. Because you are not asking for it. You have the right to bodily security.
We need to teach our children better. The culture should be 'DO NOT RAPE' as opposed to 'Don't get raped'.
Here's a secret, consent is sexy. Not just 'do you want to have sex' though that is a VERY good question to ask when the time comes. I mean getting a yes for little things. 'Can I kiss you?' 'Do you like it if I touch you? If I touch you here?'
Afraid it'll make you look insecure? Most guys think they need to take charge and be confident with their partners. But the truth is, knowing that your sexual partner cares enough to check is really hot. And women, return the favour.
Women can rape men. It is not a common occurance but it does happen. Men can rape men too. Women tend to be the primary survivors of it though.
You often hear people scoff and say 'they were asking for it', when it's a female survivor. You never hear that when it's a man or a child. Because we know that they did NOTHING to warrant it. Neither do women.
It is not a joke. If you beat someone at a game and say 'oh I raped you!' guess what, you're adding to rape culture. YOU SHOULD NEVER BE PROUD TO RAPE SOMEONE.
There's this stupid twitter post going around too. It says 'I don't get why women are so worked up about rape. You should be proud that a guy risked jail to f*ck you'. Rape culture. That is as stupid as saying 'I don't get why people get so worked up about murder. You should be proud that someone risked jail just to kill you.'
More insidious than this though is what people say to survivors thinking it's 'helpful'.
'Oh it was anal penetration? Well that's not so bad, at least you won't get pregnant.'
'Oh he used his fingers/ a tool? Well that's not real rape'
'You agreed to sex but changed your mind part way through, well of course he didn't stop.'
Again, these are all real things said to survivors. And then there are those people who claim 'she's making it up for attention'.
Some facts for you. Most rapes and sexual assaults are never reported (in Canada, only 6% are reported) . Of the SMALL percentage reports, less than 2% are 'false charges' and of those 'false charges' a rape or assault ACTUALLY OCCURED but the victim is PRESSURED BY FAMILY OR THE ATTACKER to change their 온라인카지노게임.
Fact is that sex is not a payment, you never owe someone sex. If they try to pressure you into it, then they are not a good person. You never deserve it, you did not ask for it and you should never have to experience it.
