I sat at the dinner table with a fake smile plaster on my face; the night before kept repeating in my mind. I saw him in our bed with another woman, not to mention him telling her he loved her loudly. My heart sank just hearing him repeat it multiple times; I closed my eyes to keep from crying. I looked at him with disgust; everybody thought he was the perfect man for me. Lies and fairytales are all that he is and will always be. I'm just the fool who fell for him and can't escape from his prison.
"Zathura sweetheart, Are you okay? You have been daydreaming since we sat at the table," my mother asked.
"I'm just overwhelmed with the wedding planning and a little under the weather," I said.
I don't know why I was lying for this bastard, but he begged me to act "normal" for the sake of my parents. And I haven't even started planning our wedding because I had suspicions about him cheating.
"Calvin, how does it feel to be one of the best stock brokers at your job," Robert asked.
" I honestly enjoy my job, and I got offered a higher position. I'm excited because Zathura and I were looking at a house together." He said while holding my hand.
I wanted to break his hand because he had the nerve to be touching me after last night. I did beat his ass last night. It wasn't good enough because there were no bruises or scratches. I was zoned out for most of the conversation, impatiently waiting for it to end so I could go to the hotel I was staying at.
" I just remembered that I had to go out of town for a few days. My boss wanted me to tag along with her and her son." I said.
I can tell Calvin got upset about me going on a business trip without his knowledge. But I don't care about his feelings right now. Just know I'm about to enjoy myself on this business trip.
One week later
I lay on my king-sized bed. I have been in and out of this hotel room since we landed three days ago. I was exhausted mentally and physically; Calvin was blowing up my phone nonstop. I never responded because I don't have time for the bullshit. I'm trying to enjoy myself by any means and not letting him get in front of me.
I got a text from Noah. He asked if I wanted to go to the pool with him. I knew Noah from high school; he's always been attractive. He's been flirting nonstop since we made it on the trip. It's hard not to indulge his tactics when I'm not in the correct head space. I finally got the courage to go to his hotel room; he opened the door with only a towel wrapped around his waist as water dripped from his hair.
"Noah," I said while walking into the room to sit on the couch.
"What? I was trying to hurry up, but you were beating on the door like the police," he said.
I wasn't listening to anything he said because I was too busy thinking of what was behind the towel on his waist. He walked back into the bathroom, leaving me in my unholy thoughts. I can't keep thinking of these things when I'm married, but the nigga was so tempting.
"Why do you look so stressed," he asked. He came out of the bathroom with no shirt on but with swimming shorts.
"Because I am Noah, I keep thinking about things that happened before I got on that airplane."
"What that nigga Calvin do? He always doing some bullshit. If I'm being honest, I never liked his ass, he's too self-centered." He said truthfully.
I stood up in frustration and stared at the wall before speaking.
"He cheated on me with some girl. He met at the club. He had been talking to her for months. I noticed the signs, but I was so naive to his lies. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I want to get even."
The room was silent. I can't believe I said that out loud. I turned to see Noah standing directly behind me the whole time. My breath hitched because he was so close.
"Is that why you came to my room? To get even with Calvin, I am surprised that you were bold to say it. But I would gladly take you up on that offer if you let me." He said with amusement in his voice.
"With no strings attached," I said in one breath.
