“You deserved it,” he mumbled in spite and got back to his Android, pretending I wasn't there. I waited for him to add anything else but it never came. I groaned.
“Fiiine, I'm sorry! I swear I was going to be on time but then this chick showed up with some questions and I couldn't say no.”
I may look like a fuck up but I wasn't into civil engineering for nothing. I had a knack for solving equations and problems since I learned the meaning of physics. While hundreds of students did for the sake of it, I did it with interest. I loved Maths and Physics like how others loved English. I could have opted for a major in Physics, but it was too demanding, so I opted for engineering instead. I wasn't a born genius, though. There were times when I wasn't able to solve it and it annoyed me, more than my Ma's scolding but that challenge was the exciting part. I fucked those problems before I could let them fuck me. I wasn't called as beauty with brains for nothing. I earned that shit. So it didn't came as a surprise that my lovely classmates burdened me with questions. I was happy to comply, even at the cost of letting my boy friend wait. A bad girl friend, I know.
“Even when you know there's a friend who travels two hours in traffic, just to see your sorry ass,” he said, his eyes still glued to the phone screen. Now he was deliberately trying to take me on a guilt trip.
“Okay Abhi, look at me,” I said and he did just that. “Look, I don't want to turn this into a drama, so can we move past it and hug each other?”
His eyes narrowed into slits. “You do realize you're late by thirty- five minutes, right?”
“Yes, and I'm sorry. Please!” I pleaded, pulling my best childish face that he possibly couldn't say no to.
“Don't show me that plastic face. You know I hate it,” he said, his lips breaking into a small smile and I heaved a sigh of relief. Soon, he stood to enclose me in his arms. I hugged him back just as fiercely, taking in his familiar scent mixed with a pinch of sweat. Everything was fine now.
“I missed you, big guy.”
“But we met last week," he retorted and I hit his back with my fist that earned a cry of pain from him. He was so sensitive I swear.
We settled down, getting into our usual routine of conversation. Our orders would come later. He expressed his displeasure at my love for studies. Logical parts to be exact, I still hated juggling with the theoretical ones. “Seriously, it would be so ideal having a nerdy boyfriend. We would actually do something productive besides fucking."
“Productive as in, producing an offspring,” he joked and I rolled my eyes.
Our sappy moment was interrupted by one of the most productive devices, known as the phone. It was an unknown number but I was able to see the name of the caller with the help of the app. I let out a groan of utter frustration. “I swear this motherfucker—”
“Who is it this time?” he asked, not seeming surprised one bit.
I let the phone vibrate and told him about my disastrous last night. He did what any other dick would do.
“I'll hit you bad if you don't stop laughing,” I threatened though we both knew it was useless. How unfortunate!
“I'll be happy to choke on laughter, milady,” he joked. “Alongwith Khushboo since she knows you too.”
“Nope. She doesn't know. I made up a lie, telling her that I dumped him due to crappy pick up lines.”
Abhi shook his head as he understood the reason behind my action. “You won't understand, Abhi. Call it a woman's gut but I don't trust her completely. Not after the highly rated sarcastic comments she had made in the past. Khushboo is nice but I'm afraid that's all she is. Just because she's my roommate doesn't mean I'll confide all my dirty secrets to her.”
