Draco was waiting impatiently in the waiting room. His leg was bouncing as he rubbed his hands. He trembled as the adrenaline dropped. He couldn't believe he hit a dog. He begged the omnipotent power above to save him.

It took almost two hours, but the vet came out. "It went well. We'll be keeping him overnight. It wasn't too damaging, with a broken leg and some ribs, and there are some healing fractures in his shoulder, jaw and head. He's been through a lot."

Draco breathed easier. "Poor thing. Will he heal alright?"

"He should. Thank you for bringing him in. The receptionist will help you. I have another surgery to attend to," the vet said, and another limping dog go into the back with him.

The receptionist came back out and handed him an animal control notice. "Before you go, I pulled this off the circular. He matches the description of a local nuisance. If it's the same dog, which no one is sure it is... he's got quite the knack for chasing animals, stealing food and running around like a feral animal."

There was a picture of a tan and black dog that looked like the one he had hit, but Draco couldn't be sure. It was from a town about an hour away by car.

"I think you should be aware that we might have to put him down if he's uncontrollable or violent," she said, sadly.

Draco looked up in horror. "No... don't. Just because he's feral doesn't mean he can't be saved, Please," he pleaded. It was hitting close to home.

She nodded, "It's okay, lad. We'll give him a chance. But I do suggest you read up on how to take care of a working dog. The Belgian Malinois breed needs a lot of work and tasks. He is the biggest Mal I have ever seen. They're usually lighter. He's got some muscle to him. If he wasn't so hurt, I'd suggest neutering him."

Draco flinched and adjusted himself. "Ummmm... No. Not that."

She laughed, "Oh... men are all the same, but you'll have to train him and keep him contained. You're taking responsibility for him."

"I will... of course."

"Alright, love. Go home, rest, do your research and prepare yer home. You did a great thing saving him."
