chapter twenty-nine
MADDIE
With a bowl of popcorn in my lap, I'm in my pajamas, rain slowly dripping onto the windows, and The Notebook playing, this is my perfect idea of an afternoon.
I missed the tournament, but Johnny had won, and Cobra Kai was now the number one dojo in the world. Smiling at the thought, I turn away from the windows as a hand is suddenly is thrust into the popcorn bowl.
"Xander!" I yell out as popcorn spills over the side of the popcorn bowl and onto the couch. "Get out of it."
He rolls his eyes, slouching back onto his corner of the couch with Sookie lying in between us. "You picked this cheesy movie, and you get the popcorn bowl. Why are you complaining?"
Lifting my foot over Sookie, I kick him in the shoulder, causing his phone to drop from his arm and onto his thigh. He groans at me, the handful of popcorn in his other hand spilling all over his lap.
"I picked this movie because it's the perfect day for a romance movie," I tell him, kicking his hand away as he moves to grab another handful of popcorn. "And plus, its raining so I can dream about the day I'll kiss someone in the rain— stop watch out for Sookie!"
Xander's reached his foot over our dog, knocking the bowl completely off my lap so it all spills on the ground. As he does, he flattens Sookie's tail with his ass, causing her to let out a loud bark and jump off the couch. Picking the metal bowl up from the ground, I throw it at him, satisfied as I hear the clang of it hitting him in the head. It rolls onto the ground, creating a loud racket, that only causes Sookie to bark louder.
A daily fight between us is normal in this household. And despite my brother chasing me around with a knife when we were younger, I know we both care about each other, even if he is fucking obnoxious at times. He's always flipping around the house, doing the fancy spins he learned in Topanga Karate, and is always just walking around with weights. Despite karate being his hobby now, he's always still doing his kicks and punches on me in slow motion.
"Stop, Maddie no!" he yells out as I grab the pillow I was holding to my chest earlier, climbing across the couch and pressing it onto his face. A hiss leaves my throat as he pinches my arm. He pushes me off him, pushing the pillow onto my stomach and sitting on me.
"Get off, you lump," I wheeze out as he just sits on my stomach watching the movie he was previously whining about. My wheezing slowly turns into laughter at the chaos of our living room. It's good thing mum's not home, because the sight of the popcorn spilled everywhere and the dog barking her head off would send her into shock.
Xander gets off me after a minute, smiling at his triumph. I kick him in the stomach one last time, wiping my cheek with the sleeve of my jumper. "You're a dick."
He rolls his eyes, pushing himself off the couch and wiping his pants. "I'll get the hoover, then I'm going upstairs."
I wave him off, turning my attention back onto my movie. The scene where Noah admits to writing Allie three hundred and sixty five letters plays. I smile at the scene, ignoring the rain thundering onto the house. Since I've learned that true love exist, my dream has been to be princesses twirled, and kissed in the rain. Neither things have happened, but I'll still have hope.
