SEVEN... she's all I wanna be

Start from the beginning

"Easy. A statue of myself cut from marble that's attached to a fountain of my favorite beer. And a big koi pond filled with fish, but only the orange and white ones, none of those ones that are orange and white with black spots."

"I love koi ponds." Collins smiled. "I had a goldfish once, Charlie won it at the fair, which now that I think about it was incredible cruel— anyways, I loved that fish. I named him Goob because that's what he looked like he was saying every time he puckered his little lips. He went belly up two weeks later, Charlie said he thinks it was diseased."

"That was an incredibly detailed biography on your deceased pet goldfish you just gave me." JJ deadpanned with an amused look on his face.

Shrugging her shoulders, Collins rolled her eyes. "The more you know."

"Is the grief of Goob's death the reason why you want to be a doctor?"

Collins shook her head with a soft chuckle. "No, it's just something that I figured out along the way. I thought about being a vet, but it just didn't speak to me like working with people does."

"So, you wanna be my sugar mama? We can play hospital? You be the physician and I'll be the patient, suffering from-"

"Chronic goofball syndrome?" Collins finished before he could end with something even more crude than he had only a few minutes before.

"Goofball? Yeah, sure. We'll go with that."

In a completely out of character sort of way, Collins shoved JJ to the side in a playful manner yet he couldn't help the stumble in his step from the force of her push. He looked at her with a hint of surprise on his face while hers was indignant, fighting a smile on her lips and losing terribly. Then JJ leaned over and nudged her arm back like he was testing her to see if she'd do it again.

And suddenly, they were in a battle of who could get the last laugh and were bumping into each other down the path. A series of 'oh no you didn't' from JJ and Collins's response of 'watch yourself, Maybank' were exchanged between the two.

And like a game of tag, Collins dodged JJ's hands from driving into her and was taking off into a slight jog before her pace changed into a run and JJ was the one chasing her all the way down to John B's house. Laughter spilled out from the two and the wind carried it through the air and into the ears of the rest of the Pogues who were getting the boat ready.

Kie was in charge of the drinks as per usual, and was carrying a cooler onto the dock while Pope and John B were tending to the ropes. They all looked up once they heard the sound and waved in greeting as Collins approached.

"'Sup, Collins, aka the only girl that JJ would wake up for before the rest of the house to go pick up for a boat ride." John B smiled teasingly as he reeled in the anchor.

Meanwhile, JJ had vengeance written all over his face as he stared icily at the boy. "You know, JB, you've got such a beautiful head of hair, I'd hate to see it dunked in a toilet bowl when I'm giving you a JJ Maybank-Special-Swirly." The blond jumped onto the boat and grabbed John B into a headlock while ruffling his hair with his free hand.

As the boys jostled around on the boat, Kie crept around them while shaking her head before glancing back at Collins who carefully followed. They dumped their bags on the deck towards the front of the boat where they settled in with their things.

"So..." Kie started slowly and lowly enough to where she was pretty sure none of the other boys could hear. "You and JJ?"

Her eyes widening, Collins quickly shook her head and dismissed the notion as soon as she could. "Wha- no, we-we're just friends. Barely, friends. Everything between us is really fresh, raw— I don't know why I used those adjectives like I'm talking about fish. But I guess what I'm trying to say is that nothing's really going on, we still barely even know each other."
