"Shekhar, can you please bring things listed on this note. These are essentials for Aayush?" Sharmishtha asked, passing the note to her husband who was all ready to go to his shop.

"Hmm" Shekhar took the note without any further word. He was on no talking terms with his wife, due to her failure in convincing her daughter.

He turned to the door when he saw Swara at the doorstep of their room. Both scrunched their eyebrows seeing their elder daughter's unexpected entry. It was after 4 days, they were face to face.

"Ma, these are Aayush's monthly supplies. They delivered it just now." Swara had ordered requisits as usual a few days back. She stepped inside their room to keep a few delivery packages.

"There is no need for this kindness. Take it back, your charity is not needed here." Shekhar snapped venomously.

"Baba, this is not charity, it is a responsibility which I have been fulfilling since the first day and will continue to do so in future also." Swara replied calmly.

"Where did this responsible nature of yours had gone when your own mother and father needed you?" Shekhar repulsed and continued with his confrontation, "I had asked for one thing from you for the first time but you couldn't even do that for your own parents."

"Really Baba? Is this really the ONLY thing you've ever asked me?" Swara cross questioned with thunderstorm eyes. She did not speak a single word but her eyes reminded Shekhar about his past.

'Please Swara, please ask Sanskar and Durga Prasad ji not to file a police complaint against Ragini. Her life will be ruined. Can't you do this for your father?' This was after Ragini's truth came out post her marriage with Laksh.

'Swara you are Ragini's sister. How can you not support her when she is broken? Can't I ask my elder daughter to support her sister when she is heartbroken. You are not going to keep any ties with Maheshwaris. That's final. Forget about your wedding with their other son. ' This was when Laksh betrayed Ragini and married Kavya.

'Swara, why can't you understand Ragini? She was helping me and your Ma by faking her preganancy. You should be the one to stand in her defence in front of your family. Being her sister at least I can expect this from you.' This was after the unfolding of Ragini's fake pregnancy drama.

And the list was long.

"Ma, please check if everything required is delivered or not. If not, please let me know. I will get it." Saying Swara turned and without giving any chance to her mother or sparing even a glance at her flummoxed father, she turned her back to her mother.

"Shona wait" Sharmishtha asked with hope.

Swara halted in her tracks but Shekhar left the room leaving mother and daughter alone.

"Do you really think I used you for my own selfish motives?" Sharmishtha asked the question which was haunting her for the last 4 days after Swara's outburst. "Why will I do that Swara? You pointed at me in front of everyone. I always took a stand for you, Swara. I am your mother for god sake."

"Yes Ma, I owe my life to you as you gave me birth, you gave me upbringing, you gave me education, livelihood but Ma what about supporting, taking a stand for me when I needed you the most? Ma you took a stand for me only once. Only once when Ragini married Laksh, while almost killing me. That was the only time when you chose me over Ragini." Swara spoke her heart out, she was gulping hard controlling her tears.

"Did you forget I was the one who released you from Shekhar's swear about not entering this house post your marriage with Sanskar?" Sharmishtha criticised feeling humiliated. Tears were flowing over her cheeks as well looking at the distance build up between her and her daughter.

"Ma, that time I was expecting you to stop Baba from taking me away from my newly wedded husband. Ma, you knew after a long long struggle, I had finally got the love of my life. It was my and Sanskar's moment, Ma. But because of Laksh's imprudent step and Ragini's grief, her insult without any fault of me and Sanskar, we had to ignore the moment which we wanted to cherish for the rest of our life. It was our marriage day, Ma." Over the last few months Swara had only one job to do in her free time to rewind her life to find her own mistakes.

"Yes, I agree you released me from Baba's swear but" Swara took a step towards her mother. She held Sharmishtha's hand and kept it on her head, "Tell me the truth Ma, your prime aim was to get justice for Ragini. You knew, if I returned to this home, Ragini's chances of finding her happiness with Laksh will increase in multitude." Swara confronted bluntly this time.

Swara's upfront question left Sharmishtha in a staggered state. She could not match her shameful eyes with her daughter's accusing glare.

"Ma, I am tired of this. Please let's not talk about the past. It will be hurtful for both of us." Swara concluded before leaving from her mother's room.

It was Friday, as per their routine, Sanskar took initiative to reserve a table for two of them at a renowned Thai restaurant in spite it was Swara's turn for this week.

"I am sorry, it just slipped out of my head." Swara was remorseful about forgetting about their Friday routine.

"Why sorry? Anyway, last Friday, I cancelled it so of course this Friday it was my turn." He parked the car in the hotel's underground parking area.

Both ordered their food and were waiting when Sanskar observed his wife's gloominess. From last week, she was lost. He knew the episode that happened in their home post board meeting was still impacting her severely on emotional grounds. But still he was patient, he needed her to broach the topic.

"This morning, I went to Ma's room with Aayush's essentials." She spoke with a rotating spoon in the soup bowl. She narrated events while keeping her eyes down.

He stayed silent but his other hand reached to her free one in support. She raised her eyes to match with his assured ones.

"At first, I felt bad at their words but then I realised, Baba was always vocal about his choices and preferences. It was always Ragini for him. It was me who was pushing myself on him. And Ma, I understand her dependency over Baba. She had once burnt her hands by supporting me over Ragini while almost ruining her marriage with Baba. With Aayush in picture now.... for sure she doesn't want to upset Baba." Swara shook her head with a humorous chuckle. It was for the first time she was talking about someone else over their Friday's dinner outs.

"Over these days, I have accepted this truth of my life... And when I had accepted, I really felt calm because now I don't have any expectations from both of them or their family." Swara spoke honestly.

For a moment Sanskar felt she would cry but her eyes were indifferent, they were calm and he could feel peace on her face.

"I always craved for a family, and when I got it I wanted to hold it no matter what. But maybe now I understood a few things, first is you cannot withhold any relation forcefully and.... And ... family doesn't mean a bunch of people staying under one roof. It's the bonding, trust, and care for each other no matter if there are 20 people in your family or even one person. It's still a family. And you are my family." She held his palm in hers staring in her dark brown orbs.

"If you are with me, I don't need anyone else." She put her other palm on his.

"I love you Swara. And I will always love you." he confessed, he couldn't find any other word to express his enthralling heart. "Just one thing, don't stress yourself too much. Go with the flow. And keep one thing in your mind... Whatever.... Whatever happens in our life, you are my home. Any situation, any misunderstanding, any fight, any insecurity cannot stop me from reaching and holding you in my arms. Our love has surpassed these hurdles long back. No matter what, we both will find our ways to each other."

His assurance, resolved even the tiniest knot of insecurity she had earlier, the same reflected in her eyes.

"Love you too, Mr. Husband." She smiled heartily which of course reached to her eyes.

"Pleasure is all mine."

"Swara, there is one thing I want to share..." He trailed with excitement. "Karma is going to take over Brightspace Incorporations. They are one of the influential suppliers of cement and metal required for construction business in US. It's time for Karma to go for an expansion... it's a big thing for Karma."

"Of course it is. Ohh wow! Congratulations." Her heart pounded with pride feeling over his accomplishments. "I am so so proud of you Sanskar."

"Discussions are in the final stage, but to complete the legalities. I will need to go to the US as Karma's head office is there." He stared at her.

"So when are we leaving?" Swara asked instantly.

"You are coming with me?" Question was out of his mouth even before he realised, over the last few months, he could see changes in his wife as well as their married life but at this point of time when their home was sitting on a ticking bomb he was sceptical about her agreement for a long US trip.

"Mr. Husband, now I have a US visa as well. So you have no chance of escape." Swara threatened him, darting her eyes and raising a fork at him.

"Mrs. Wife is in a dangerous mood today." He raised his hands in surrender.

"You better be careful Mr. Husband." She made faces where as he laughed at her antics.

"By the way how many days are we going?" she asked inquisitively.

"My wild guess it will take at least one month to complete everything and sign the deal." Sanskar replied with hope.

"One month?" Just she and Sanskar, no one else for next 30 days, just a simple thought had set her heart racing with jet speed. She felt butterflies dancing inside her stomach.

"Annnndddd we can stay there for few more weeks if you want... I can show you around like Hawaii or Miami or Vegas, SFO, LA." He was also thrilled to show her around the place he spent most of the time of his life.

"Wow... that sounds like a plan Mr. Husband." Suddenly she felt every ounce of her body, every cell of her blood rushing with the excitement to spend quality time with Sanskar alone... away from their regular household drama.

"And for the first month where are we going to stay?" One more question was thrown on him. He thought a bit before answering.

"Of course my city. New York." he winked with a smile.

"New York, wow!"

"The city never sleeps." Swara observed his eyes, they twinkled with his inner happiness.

Swara could not surmise reasons behind his cheerfulness ... was it because of the deal? was it because they were going on a trip alone? or was it because it was after a long time he would be visiting the city which was always close to his heart?

Unaware of Swara, her husband's mind was already running in all directions to make this trip memorable for both of them.

After their marriage, the first thing he wanted was to take her to the city where he spent his university years, the city where he started Karma, the city which gave him name and fame. Endless ups and downs in their married life took away this chance from him but now she herself was willing to go away with him.

Next day, Sanskar broke this news to his parents. Ram and Sujata were thrilled with the revelation. Ram was proud of his son's achievements whereas Sujata could see his content, peaceful, delightful face having his soulmate by his side.

And in the evening a call from a music audition company added extra to their happiness, confirming Swara clearing her audition. Music company wanted to record one song in her voice for their upcoming album. Recording was scheduled after three months.

It was late evening when Ragini came downstairs to overlook dinner preparations. She saw her step-mother in the kitchen feeding Aayush mashed dal-rice, whereas her grandmother also entered after her evening arati to give prasad to her beloved grand-daughter.

"Nirmala Kaki, why did you make so many less rotis for today? These many won't be enough for dinner." Ragini asked, looking at casserole.

"Arree Ragini Bahu, Sujata Bhabhisa said that today, they all are going out for dinner to a newly opened Rajasthani Restaurant. So, I prepared food accordingly." Nirmala answered carefully.

"Ohh" Ragini replied, scrunching her nose.

"Laddoo, I heard that Swara and Sanskar are going to America for 2 months? Is it true?" Parvati asked inquisitively. She could not suppress her envy in her tone as well as in her antics.

"Yes, Dadi Ma, I even heard about this when Chachiji was informing about their trip to Ma." Ragini replied, twitching her nose.

"You see, Sharmishtha, the daughter whom you used to keep on praising is going to leave you alone in this swamp and is going to a foreign country to enjoy with her husband." Parvati taunted. "It doesn't matter to her whether her parents live or die. She is only concerned with her own luxurious life. Such a selfish girl!" And Parvati went on with her daily dose of cursing Swara.

Three days later, Swara and Sanskar left for the US. After long 16 hours of journey the flight landed on John F. Kennedy International Airport. It was afternoon, when they came out after completing the immigration and collecting their baggage they stepped out.

Swara was following her husband, he stopped a moment stepping out of the door. He closed his eyes, breathing in the cold breeze and familiar aroma. His lips stretched in a peaceful smile. Swara could see enigmatical relief spread across his entire posture.

"Sanskar?" She shook him.

"Yes, let's go." He was excited.

"Welcome back sir." Mike, Sanskar's personal assistant came ahead welcoming them. "Welcome to New York, Mam."

"Swara, this is Mike, my assistant." Sanskar introduced.

"Hi" Swara shook her hand with white guy.

"Mike, please get the baggage and send it to the venue." Sanskar ordered.

"Sure Sir."

"Where is the car?" Sanskar asked, raising his hand for the key.

Mike took out the keys from pocket. He knew his boss's passion to drive cars on the busy roads of this city.

"Sanskar, you must be tired after the journey." Swara, puzzled looking at her husband, suddenly he had become spirited.

"That's fine."

"Is everything ready?" Sanskar asked to Mike, while walking towards the parking area of the airport.

"Yes Sir." Mike replied with a simple nod.

"Sanskar, our luggage?" Swara asked, when she saw her husband igniting his latest limited edition of Black Porsche SUV.

"Don't worry, Mike will make arrangements. Come on get inside." His exhilaration was radiating with his every word.

"What has happened? Why are you getting so excited? You are behaving like a teenage kid." Swara shook her head with a bright smile.

"I had been waiting for this moment for a long time." Sanskar geared the car to drive mode. "I hope you will like it." He mumbled his last statement inaudible to Swara.

While driving, he was showing her around. Swara was looking at him with astonishment, for him this city was like his second home.

After 1 hour of driving, Sanskar's car crossed the iron gates, passing a beautifully landscaped lawn, he parked car in front of a two storey beautiful bungalow.

"Wow this is so beautiful" Swara came out of the car, her eyes were not leaving the picture perfect home standing in the middle with magnificent architecture. "Whose house is this? I thought we would be living in some hotel."

"Come, come inside." Sanskar wrapped his hand around her waist taking her towards the main door.

"Did you book it for our stay?" Swara's was running her mind in all directions. "Don't you think this is huge for just two of us?"

"I didn't book it." He replied.

"Then?" She scrunched her eyebrows.

Meanwhile he punched the security code to open the main door.

"Step inside Swara." He asked and waited for her.

Swara stepped inside, and Sanskar followed her.

Swara was looking around, her eyes were roaming over the rich, elegant, lavish interiors when she felt her feets were off from floor and she was lifted in bridal style by her husband.

"I didn't book it because ... because we own this house." He took a swirl laughing around. He stopped to rub his nose tip on her cheeks.

"What?" Swara was bewildered with recent revelations.

"Yes, Mrs. wifey. This is our house." Finally, he made her stand on her feet. She was feeling dizzy first of all due to the shock her husband gave her plus his recent merry-go-round actions.

"This is our house?" Swara asked again, she could not believe the words landed on her ears.

"Yes." He nodded his head continuing he confessed, "I had bought this land long back... even before our marriage. When we got married, I thought about building our house over here. This was waiting to welcome its house-lady for a long time."

"You never told me." She complained with a pouty face.

"I wanted to give you a surprise." He winked.

"Come on now, show me around." She tucked her hand in his arm. She felt butterflies in her stomach.

"We both have to look around," He admitted, gulping scratching the back of his neck, "even... I am stepping inside for the first time." Sanskar trailed earning a scrunched forehead from his wife.

"I wanted to step inside with you. This house was ready on our first anniversary but..." his words again reminded her about her blunders.

Yes! For their first anniversary both were apart. He blinked his eyes looking every where but not at her and she just kept on staring at him with teary eyes. The day of their first marriage anniversary, she had locked herself in her room crying over her fate.

He took a long breath, "whenever I visited the US, I came till the doorstep but I could not enter... in fact I didn't want to step in without you. So, I used to just watch this from outside and go to my Manhattan's penthouse to stay." He could not match his remorseful eyes with her scrutinising ones.

His voice pricked her heart. She watched him staring at the floor. She cupped his face in her hands, making him look at her. She tiptoed herself to peck his lips.

"Let's look around our house, Sanskar." She mumbled against his lips.

Both leisurely took a round around the house finally settling in their master bedroom. Swara immediately drifted to sleep due to jet lag.

Soon it was evening, "Swara, get up." Sanskar tried to make her wake up.

"No, Sanskar, I want to sleep." She covered herself with a blanket without opening her eyes.

"Swara, my love please get up. It's 8 pm. You have not eaten anything. And if you keep on sleeping then it will be hard to settle down your jetlag." He caressed her hair, kissing her crown.

After long efforts from her husband, she woke up rubbing her eyes.

"Go and take a shower. You will feel fresh." He pushed her towards their washroom.

After a long hot shower, Swara came out wearing loose track pants with a t-shirt. Since it was just two of them, she preferred to wear comfy clothes.

She came downstairs to step inside the kitchen to see her husband trying his hands over a knife chopping mushrooms.

"What are you making?" She asked with a creased forehead.

"Chicken Mushroom Marsala with Butter Garlic Spaghetti." He passed a brief glance at her.

"Do you know cooking?" Her eyebrows were raised with his reply. Shock was evident on her face.

"We have so many cooking apps these days..." He passed a quick smile, "Swara, I stayed out of the house for all important years of my life. Cooking should not be a hobby but an essential habit for one's life." He poured red wine in another glass for her.

'He can cook as well.' This came as one more revelation about her husband after 2.5 years of their relationship.

'Thanks for this US trip. I will get to know him more.'

He passed the glass to her. "Cheers"

"Sujata Maheshwari, is going to freak out for sure when she will realise her 'ladla chora' is trying his hands on 'Maas-Macchi'." She pressed her lips. "Cheers"

"Don't scare me with Mom's name." he rolled his eyes.

Both laughed imagining his mother's antics. Swara insisted on helping him but he refused, instead, making her sit on an island in the middle of the kitchen.

Post dinner both called off for the day slipping in deep slumber in each other's embrace.

It was a blissful morning, Sanskar woke up as per his routine, over the years of experience of travelling across the world have made him accustomed with handling jet lag. He felt weight on his chest, he lowered his eyes to see his wife, she was sleeping peacefully clinging to his body. He shifted her hair strand back of her ear to get a clear picture of her serene beauty.

Today, after almost two - three weeks, he was seeing peace and calm on her face. She was completing her sleep which was somewhere lost for a few weeks because of the conflicts going on in their house.

More than physical it was mental stress, he was observing on her pale face, though she was trying her best to hide it by putting up fake smiles for his sake. But her eyes were always a mirror for her pure heart for him. This was one of the major reason for him planning this trip for giving her change in surroundings.

He kissed her forehead, covering her properly under the blanket he got up from bed. He walked to the washroom and then went downstairs to the gym.

Almost after three hours, Swara woke up stretching her arms. She looked at the watch, it was showing 10:30 am. For a moment, time on the watch jerked her as she slept quite long hours but then she realised she was away from her home, alone with her husband, so no need to exert herself with her household responsibilities. She took her time snuggling and cuddling with his side of the pillow which was emitting his smell.

She sat up on bed and roamed her eyes in their room. She found herself alone in the room which brought a cute frown on her face. After a long time, her mind was relaxed, her heart was light without any knots and her lips were stretched with a genuine smile.

After taking her own time, she moved to the washroom for her routine. When she came out, she saw her husband entering their room with a tray in his hands. Tray was filled with coffee mugs, freshly cut fruits, egg omelettes and slices of toasted bread .

"Sanskar, don't you think you are spoiling me?" He turned to his back listening to her.

"If you give me a chance I can spoil you to the fullest." He winked and set their breakfast on the table.

"Come let's call Mom and Dad, they want to talk to you. I had called them but you were sleeping at that time." Sanskar mentioned.

After breakfast, both gave a video call to Ram and Sujata for a long chat.

Here in India, "Learn something from your son?" Sujata rolled her eyes at her husband after her talks with her son and daughter in law. "Your son has turned out to be much smarter than you."

"It was I who suggested that he should go out with Swara for a few days." Ram mentioned which raised Sujata's eyebrows.

"But now I am relieved, they both are happy. Thank you so much Ram." Sujata confessed with a smile. Sujata could see her son's bright smile and the reason behind his pure smile was his beloved wife.

"But I need to now talk with Bhaisa. Laksh will be in deep shit if Bhaisa couldn't convince him." Ram's words left Sujata in puzzlement.
