Chapter 68 - Let It Go

Start from the beginning

"Sorry I woke you up," he murmured. He knew that Draco didn't go back to sleep.

"I don't mind. Are you okay? You couldn't calm down, last night."

"It was the battle... and the f-forest," Harry whispered, but slowly kept going. "B-But Hopkirk was there... and everyone was dead... because of me. I-I didn't save you." He leaned into him.

"You did, Harry. That was just a dream."

"We're going into another war... who else am I going to lose? You? Hermione? Mrs. Weasley? Hagrid? That is what happens in a war. People die," he said, stifling a sob.

"And people live... live because you and everyone else fought for us. You sacrificed yourself so we could win and have a future free from tyranny and oppression. What would have happened if no one fought Voldemort? Where would everyone be? Hermione would be in prison or dead. Students would be learning how to kill muggles. I'd be bowing to that madman and thanking him for torturing me. What will happen if Hopkirk takes over? Maybe not as much death and torture, but she'll hurt anyone who challenges her. Maybe start persecuting muggleborns, again, takeover Hogwarts and send all of us to prison. I know you are worried about losing more and you've given so much to us, but we can't let her win."

"No... but... I can't lose you, Draco. Or the others... I don't want to lose any more of my family."

"I know, Harry. I don't want to lose you, either. But the price is the same as the last time. We fail and we all die... or be arrested. You wouldn't survive Azkaban any more than I could."

Harry shivered at the mention of the fiends. "No. I wasn't going to give up... I'm just... scared."

"That's okay, Harry."

"I'm a Gryffindor. I'm not supposed to be scared," he muttered and griped Draco tighter.

"And Slytherins aren't supposed to be in gay relationships and like being hugged. What's your point? You don't have to follow the stereotypes of your house, Harry. It hasn't really gotten us anywhere, has it?" Draco said, bitterly.

"So, I should stop being a self-sacrificing prick?"

"Yeah... that and accept that it's okay to cry and to be scared. You don't have to act like a tough guy all the time. You can have vulnerabilities. You can ask for help."

"I'm supposed to be in charge," Harry said. "Everyone looks to me for answers."

"Because you are awesome... and smart... and a natural leader, Harry."

"So are you, Draco," Harry said, looking at directly at him.

Draco tensed up. "No... it's gone. They took it away."

"They can't take it away... you just got to find it, again," Harry whispered.

Draco didn't reply. He sighed and leaned in and kissed the top of Harry's head. He had not done well in their dueling practices, so far. He wouldn't attack or defend, despite his new probation officer and Bill telling him he could and literally having it in writing.

"I'm sorry I scared you," Harry murmured.

"It's okay... I don't mind taking care of you. You've taken care of me so much."

"It's just... my mind won't... let it go... it just keeps... remembering. I keep going back there," he said, shaking.

"I know, Harry. I know. Mine won't either, but listen to me... I'm right here for you, just like you are there for me when I get bad."

Harry eased back to look into Draco's beautiful eyes. Draco brought his hand up to cup his face. Harry felt ashamed for even bringing up his issues when Draco was so hurt. He was supposed to take care of Draco. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to...."
