While driving, he was showing her around. Swara was looking at him with astonishment, for him this city was like his second home.
After 1 hour of driving, Sanskar's car crossed the iron gates, passing a beautifully landscaped lawn, he parked car in front of a two storey beautiful bungalow.
"Wow this is so beautiful" Swara came out of the car, her eyes were not leaving the picture perfect home standing in the middle with magnificent architecture. "Whose house is this? I thought we would be living in some hotel."
"Come, come inside." Sanskar wrapped his hand around her waist taking her towards the main door.
"Did you book it for our stay?" Swara's was running her mind in all directions. "Don't you think this is huge for just two of us?"
"I didn't book it." He replied.
"Then?" She scrunched her eyebrows.
Meanwhile he punched the security code to open the main door.
"Step inside Swara." He asked and waited for her.
Swara stepped inside, and Sanskar followed her.
Swara was looking around, her eyes were roaming over the rich, elegant, lavish interiors when she felt her feets were off from floor and she was lifted in bridal style by her husband.
"I didn't book it because ... because we own this house." He took a swirl laughing around. He stopped to rub his nose tip on her cheeks.
"What?" Swara was bewildered with recent revelations.
"Yes, Mrs. wifey. This is our house." Finally, he made her stand on her feet. She was feeling dizzy first of all due to the shock her husband gave her plus his recent merry-go-round actions.
"This is our house?" Swara asked again, she could not believe the words landed on her ears.
"Yes." He nodded his head continuing he confessed, "I had bought this land long back... even before our marriage. When we got married, I thought about building our house over here. This was waiting to welcome its house-lady for a long time."
"You never told me." She complained with a pouty face.
"I wanted to give you a surprise." He winked.
"Come on now, show me around." She tucked her hand in his arm. She felt butterflies in her stomach.
"We both have to look around," He admitted, gulping scratching the back of his neck, "even... I am stepping inside for the first time." Sanskar trailed earning a scrunched forehead from his wife.
"I wanted to step inside with you. This house was ready on our first anniversary but..." his words again reminded her about her blunders.
Yes! For their first anniversary both were apart. He blinked his eyes looking every where but not at her and she just kept on staring at him with teary eyes. The day of their first marriage anniversary, she had locked herself in her room crying over her fate.
He took a long breath, "whenever I visited the US, I came till the doorstep but I could not enter... in fact I didn't want to step in without you. So, I used to just watch this from outside and go to my Manhattan's penthouse to stay." He could not match his remorseful eyes with her scrutinising ones.
His voice pricked her heart. She watched him staring at the floor. She cupped his face in her hands, making him look at her. She tiptoed herself to peck his lips.
"Let's look around our house, Sanskar." She mumbled against his lips.
Both leisurely took a round around the house finally settling in their master bedroom. Swara immediately drifted to sleep due to jet lag.
