There was an awkward pause. "Uh huh, then what happened?" Galpin moved on.
"Then we ran into Bianca Barclay and I told her to go for help," Wednesday continued. "Next thing I remember, I was awaking in my dorm and Andy came and found me."
"And just to be clear, this monster wasn't a bear or some other wild animal?"
"Definitely not." Andy answered that time and shivered when she remembered what the monster looked like.
"Thank you, Sheriff," Weems announced and stood up from her desk. "I think Wednesday and Andromeda are done now."
"Actually, my sister and I would like to speak to Sheriff Galpin alone," Wednesday added.
Andy looked at her with wide, questioning eyes.
"I'm not sure I can allow that."
"I'm sure I could take them down to the station and get a formal statement," said the sheriff, giving her a knowing look.
The adults looked at each other and he gave Weems a quick sarcastic smile. "Yeah, let's go—"
"Fine." Weems interrupted, eyeing him suspiciously. "You have five minutes and everything is off the record. Play nice. . . or I will call the mayor."
Once she left the office, Wednesday spilled. "Someone is trying to cover up Rowan's murder. That's the only reason to scrub the crime scene,"
"Is that your profession opinion as the daughter of a murderer?" Galpin asked bitterly.
Andy glared. "No, it's called common knowledge,"
"Our father is twice the man you are, and the only thing he murders is the occasional opera in the shower,"
She shrugged. "It's actually pretty good sometimes."
Galpin looked annoyed. "Addams, it's been a long time. I'm tired of your games."
"I'm not playing games. I'm telling the truth." Wednesday stepped closer to him. "You want to reject our claims but you can't."
"Why is that?"
"Because you know as well as we do that there's a monster out there," Andy took the floor. "Bear attacks? No way. And Rowan was his latest victim."
The man gave them a hard stare and one of the deputies came into the office. "Sherrif, you're gonna want to see this." She announced.
Imagine the look of horror on Andy's face when Rowan appeared on the other side of the door. What made it worse was he smiled at the sisters and gave them a little wave like what happened in the woods never existed. Andy glanced at Wednesday and saw the same expression of horror on her face.
"Have you and your family always been close?"
It was thirty minutes into therapy and Andy couldn't concentrate on anything but Rowan. She was confused because she saw him die. That monster ripped him apart. She witnessed it with her own eyes. She was from a crazy family but she wasn't crazy.
"Andy."
Andy blinked. "Sorry. What was the question?"
Dr. Kinbott smiled. "That's okay. I asked you if you and your family have always been close?"
"Oh. Um," she muttered and sat up straight. "Close isn't the word I would use."
"What word would you use?"
". . .Trauma bonded?" There was a silence. Andy blinked again. "I just mean since we were all kids, my siblings and I have tried to kill each other."
The therapist shifted in her chair.
