y/n smiled & bowed her head slightly, walking over to one of the tables to put down her belonging before going to find the fourth isle. on days that she isn't loaded down with homework, she loves to come here. reading was kind of her escape from the shitty reality she lived in.
she tucked her h/c hair behind her ear & scanned the fourth isle, waiting to stumble upon 'supernatural fiction.'
the room was a little dim, but a laminated sign caught her eye as she made it near the far end on the right side, finding the section.
there were a few good stephen books, but she wanted a certain book to read. running her hands over the books to find the perfect one. she wanted rose red, something different than what she had been forced to read.
she looked through the writing on the spiral backs of the books, stopping when she finally found the one she was looking for. she went to grab it, but someone on the other side of the isle already had a hold of it.
she scoffed as a confused expression took over her face, looking up to be met with dark brown eyes staring at her through the small gap of books from the other isle.
she immediately let go of the book, quietly apologizing to the boy. an eerie feeling turned her stomach as she avoids eye contact. "sorry."
the much taller boy continued to silently stare at her before he brought his focus back down to the book. "stephen king?"
y/n gave a small nod before clearing her throat, "yeah... but you can have it." she looked up as the dim lights began to softly flicker.
going to walk away, she could still feel his piercing stare on her. she grabbed a smaller stephen king book. the outsider.
she quickly walked up to gladys, who was still enjoying her book. "i need to check this book out, please."
gladys looked up & grabbed the scanner, pointing it towards the barcode of the book before shooing y/n away. she headed back over to the table that had her other books on it before she saw him again.
he was sitting across from her belongings, he had rose red opened to what looked like the fourth page. he seemed very interested in the book.
y/n huffed. she didn't expect anyone to sit with her & it ruined her mood for reading. she was already sketchy of the boys who went here.
although she's never talked to this boy, she couldn't help but fear that he was like everyone else. she cleared her throat & gathered up all the courage she could to walk over & sit down.
the curly headed boy looked up at her, a blank expression on his face. he looked back down at his book, seeming uninterested. "my name is miles."
y/n studied his appearance. dark curly hair, prominent cheekbones that had freckles scattered across them. full, pink lips. miles was very pale & slim, almost like he refused to eat.
he was tall & intimidating, to her at least. he had huge hands that matched his lanky body. & those same eyes that carefully watched her reach for the stephen king book, those dark brown eyes.
she fixed her position in her seat, "i'm y/n."
miles hummed & continued reading while y/n turned to grab her book. he noticed a pencil that was sticking out of her binder.
